The large clock overhead chimed, it's bells the only noise for miles. A small girl stood on the hill, hands clutching to a well worn bear. Below the was in flames, all living now dead, their bodies fuel for the growing fire. The girl turned away, bare feet gliding across the forests floor, away from the deadly fumes. Faint images flickered around her, hands pulling at her hair, trying to pull themselves up. A brilliant flash of aquamarine filled the valley, her eyes swirling with the color as she smiled. Her body fell, blood red hair flowing around her body in pools. Fist clenched around the bear now, eyes dimming. Her breath tightened, catching in her throat. "Matre Luna.."
Maria woke suddenly, gasping for breath as the dream faded. She stumbled, throwing on clothing with staking hands. She needed to go to the library, unsure why, but it was of dire importance. Her footsteps echoed on the empty streets as she ran for the forest, feeling the energy crackle around her. A moon gave light from overhead, throwing the town into an eerie light.
She twirled a bit on the balls of her feet, eyes glancing into the vast darkness before she landed just outside the barrier. Maria glanced around, checking for anyone around. The moon faded behind a cloud, leaving her in utter darkness with the barriers colors as her company.
The barrier had so many layers, so many cracks and flaws. It was amazing to her it still stood. She gently carrassed the edges, fingertips sliding through as if it were water. The gentle gold melted to her touch, the shades of pinks and reds flashed dangerously. Another hand slipped through, rippling waves of blues and greens to her left. With yet another smile she stepped inside, a bright orange flashing through the whole barrier, a warning to the living. Had they been awake, they might have noticed.
A black horse danced across the vision, it's feet hitting the moss with amazing speed. The rider pulled the ropes, his eyes looked at the crumpled body, arms already gathering her closer to himself. "Found her!" the voice was strong and comanding, not one that you were able to ignore. He kicked his heel again, the horse started back again.
Maria clutched her head, waiting for her vision to return. She stumbled into to the library, body knocking down a stack of newspapers. No one was here, that she could see anyway. Her vision was still black when she sat down, crisp flashes of autumn danced around her. It began again as she sunk deeper in the chair, trying to call out for Matt with her mind.
The girl was back, older in appearance. She had grown to be thirteen, her hair held in tight braids around her features. A arm was outstreched to the skies, looking for an escape. Fires burned below her still, a sign that it was time to leave her newest home among these people. A black horse, the same as before, stood on the ground below her balcony, ready and waiting to carry her off once more.
