She sucked in the air through her teeth, throwing her hand around before holding it tightly in her other one, moving to the sink quickly and putting her white fingers under the running water, "stupid, stupid..." she said, looking at her cooking. What had possessed her into thinking it was a good idea to miss the handle and hit the side of the boiling pot? Simple things seemed so much harder since her fall, and it felt like she was re-learning everything.

Selena sighed. She was hungry again. Since she had no experience cooking, her food was almost as bad as the cafeteria food, which was very bad.
Walking into the kitchen, she was surpised to see someone else in there.

She turned off the tap slowly, before turning around, getting a shock that someone else was there, "Oh, hey," she said with a warming smile, moving back to the cooker and turning everything off. "You can use the cooker now if you want, I'm just going to end up burning the school down if I try and continue," she said, looking at her half-cooked gourmet meal with a sigh. It seemed such a waste, but it was probably for the best that she quit.

"Um... well... the truth is, I-I don't actually know how to cook anything." Her stomach growled loudly. "Do you know anything simple?"
Yesterday had been terrible, what with that pot of two boiled eggs boiling over and setting the smoke alarm off, and then that other guy with the cereal... ugh. But that didn't matter now, she just wanted to eat.

Her eyes widened as she looked at her, "You've never cooked anything?" she asked again, "Not even stuff from packets and stuff?" she asked, hardly able to believe it as she walked over to her side, opening the cupboard beside her, "Cheapest and easiest is to use a jar of sauce, mix up a load of veg and meat, boil up some pasta or rice and hey presto, instant meal," she said, scanning through the cupboards. "Or if you like I can show you something even more from scratch?" she asked, her eyes gleaming. This was perfect; she could get all the thrills from cooking without testing her reduced coordination skills.

"No, nothing, and I wasn't even allowed to eat anything from packets. But right now... yes, that sounds great. By the way... what's your name?" Selena was actually quite relieved at this point, since this person seemed entirely willing to cook for her. And by watching, she could learn something so that she didn't end up starving.

She smiled widely, "Diane McLain," she told her, "Now, what's your favourite food? Do you like... chinese? Indian? Roast Dinner? Or maybe something a little more impressive?" she asked, looking through. There was so much choice it was impossible to say them all, "Just fire a few ideas at me and I'll tell you how to do them. Most stuff is surprisingly easy if you have the right ingredients." she said with a shrug.

"I'm Selena. I don't want to be any trouble, but... roast dinner sounds great! Does cooking really come so easily to you?" Diane... this person really is friendly! How lucky!

"You just had to go for the tricky option, didn't you?" She teased, walking to the fridge and checking what they had, "Right, I'm afraid a chicken roast dinner is the only one I can offer. The others usually have to be made in big groups, be we can make chicken with the two of us."
She quickly ran through the list, checking all was there before pulling out the potatoes. "Right. Boiled, mashed or roasted? Or a bit of two to bulk it out?"

"He he, chicken sounds great! Hmm... mashed potatoes, if that's okay. Wow, I'm a little excited about this! So how do you do it? How long does it take? Should I be taking notes?" Selena was practically jumping up and down.

She laughed, "Should take about half an hour, depending on the potatoes...." she said, pulling them towards them, and diving into the cultery draw and pulling out a peeler.
"Right, so can you peel these please?" she asked, quickly showing how to peel them with a guesture, but not daring to use the sharp impliment, "I, uh, hit my head and I'm not really trustworthy with a knife at the moment..."

"Really? I get to do it? Yay!" The first few took a while, but after that it went smoothly. She just need practice, was all. "Is this good?"

"Awesome!" she said, taking the peeled potatoes and putting them in a bowl with a little water. "Now we soak them for a few minutes..." she said, putting it to one side as she moved back to the fridge, "Now... What sort of veg? Carrots? Parsnips?" she asked, looking through.

"Ooh! Ooh! I like carrots... carrots and, um... ah... radishes! I think those two would go well together! Right? Wait, do we have radishes?"

She blushed, "Um... what are radishes again?" she asked, wondering if this was yet another thing that she'd forgotten. She was glad of the cool air of the refrigerator cooling her down. "Oh, yeah... I don't know how to cook them, or even what they taste like, sorry." she said with a small shrug. "Um... we have broccoli?" she suggested.
