He walked into his room and dropped his bags, looking around the familiar scene. It was a basic boys room. He hadn't had much of a chance to get it the way he liked it, since he had only moved into his mother's boyfriend's place a few weeks before he'd had to leave for school.
He looked around himself and smiled, sitting down on the bed. It bounced, softer than his bed at FMS. The walls were draped in posters. There really was no place like home.
He pulled out his phone, beginning to call the number he'd been given when he stopped, looking at his watch. It was 5pm, and still Christmas Eve which he hadn't been expecting. "Mum!" he called downstairs at the top of his voice, "Mum! What time is it over at the school?!" he shouted down.
"They're five hours ahead, Mel," she shouted back to him for the sake of Michael, Diane's father, while secretly sending into his mind Its whatever time it wants to be. Sometimes they're ahead, sometimes behind. And don't shout. she added with a snap.
He sighed, finishing off the number and pressing the ring button, hoping that she wasn't asleep or the call had broken some time loop and he was still there when she got it.

Mayu had been home for awhile now, having headed home shortly after Melville left. Her uncle’s butler had called. Uncle wasn’t doing to well and someone need to take care of the books. She smiled at the butler, Adam, that’s what his name was. “Hello Adam, my things are in the car. When your done with that please tell everyone to go home. It’s a holiday you know.” She smiled at him. Adam stammered a response before rushing out, Mistress Mayu had never been this kind.
She smiled, the familiar smells of home reached her. The walls were still standing tall, though a layer of dust covered her bedroom floor. She frowned, where was Mattie when you needed her? Mayu coughed, leaving the room quickly, after changing into her old Victorian dress for Uncle’s sake.
Finally she reached the third level, happy to find her old library still in place. Even if it was more cluttered then before. Her phone started ringing, making her frown again. What was someone doing calling her at this hour. She picked it up, quickly reading the name, smiling. “Mayu speaking.” She said calmly as she answered it, quickly shooing Boo out.

"Mayu?" he asked, leaning back on his bed. Things were always much better when he could hear her voice. A smile crossed his lips; the only way this could be better was if she was there... minus the clothes, of course. He shook his head, getting distracted, "It's Melville. I didn't wake you or call you when I'm still there or something freak, did I?" he asked tentively, realising he must have sounded like a mad man.

The cat stared at Mayu, as if daring her to move him. “Nope, nothing like that. Just got here actually. Boo, move it!” she yelled the last bit at the cat. Boo stuck his tail into the air and walked off as if that had been his whole purpose. Mayu stared darkly at the cat and searched through the library, organizing the books within her mind. This was going to be a lot of work. “How is home?” she asked pleasantly, smiling into the phone.

"Um, home's fine," he said quickly, moving onto what he wanted to ask quickly, "Who's Boo? Mayu, where are you?" he asked, frowning, wondering what she was on about, and more importantly, why she hadn't told him she was leaving.

Mayu laughed into the phone, knowing just how Mel felt. Which was weird, because she wasn’t the empathy. But whatever, she’d go with it. “Uncle called a little after you left, he’s gotten sick and needs me to fix up the libraries. So here I am, home, at last. Oh, Boo is my big fluffy fur ball of a kitty. One of the many animals here. Which as I say it, is weird. I mean you’d think in a place crammed with books you’d want no animals. But we have tons.” She bit her lip, realizing she’d been rambling. Hey Mel? Can you hear me? she tried sending it towards his mind, unsure of his exact location but used the phone as a sort of.. Gate to help her pinpoint the mind she wanted. Mayu sat down quickly. England was bigger then she thought.

"Oh..." he said slowly. "Is that in Japan or somewhere?" he asked, suddenly worried he was being incredibly racist. He tried to work out a way of sending her a pyschic message beack before realising he probably didn't have to, "And yeah, I hear you. Its a little fuzzy, though."

Mayu paused, thinking hard. "No. Uncle's castle moves around a lot. I think it's near Cornwall, next week we're planning on Toyko though. So yeah. It's hard to explain, sorry. Uncle is really paranoid about his treasures." she laughed, leaning into the chair. Adam dropped in, his hat in hand of course. "Good day, Mistress. I hope you have a pleasant Christmas. Mattie will be staying an extra while to prepare.” He stopped, noticing the phone. “Oh crickets! Sorry Mistress, I didn’t mean to disturb you. Good day.” With another tiny bow he left the room. No doubt to the outside world. Mayu giggled, wondering if Melville had heard all of that.

He listened closely, giving out a deep and genuine laugh, "Mistress Mayu?!" he repeated, having heard it loud and clear. "Oh man, I have GOT to use that one." he laughed, but stopped as he noticed his mother snaking her head around the door.
"New girlfriend?" she asked with a doting smile.
He said nothing, giving her a foul look before standing up and slamming his door shut. "But yeah, you were saying? Cornwall's about... 8 hours drive from here?"

“Hey! No fair, meany.” She pouted into the phone then laughed. Brushing her hair behind one ear, moving a small statue of a lynx on to way towards the west wing. "Or a teleport. But I would not suggest doing that. Last time someone tried teleporting here without a pass... Their insides became their outsides.” She laughed again, remembering just how traumatized Mattie had been to find that on her porch. “You shouldn’t call me Mistress Mayu, it’s not nice. No one else does but the help..” Mayu cracked into laughter then fell silent, having to walk past her Uncle’s tiny room.

He laughed and pulled a face, "OK, Mistress Mayu, I won't teleport there," he said in a cheeky voice, refusing to drop the name.
Watch the magic language, Melville. came his mother's calm words, not at all disheartened by having the door slammed in her face. Michael's coming upstairs soon.
He rolled him eyes, trying to concentrate on the phone call more as he lay down on his bed, "I don't know, you could always come here. I can give you the address. I'm sure my mum'll be over the moon," he added with a low tone.

Mayu sighed, thinking about her answer carefully. “Me? Meet your family? Besides, how would I even get there?” Her tone was quiet, wavering a bit as she walked to the last room, hers, and shut the door. Smiling as she saw Adam had placed all her clothing up and placed out her favorite clothes.
Welcome home Mayu. Please have fun with your boyfriend, but remember the rules. Home by one. In the morning if you will. The old man stood at the doorway, his silvery hair frizzed out wildly. His eyes were soft, almost ancient with knowledge hidden behind gates of steel.
Mayu squealed, rushing up to her uncle and hugging him. He smiled, gently patting her head then leaving, humming gently under his breath. “I’m pretty sure I’d get lost if I drove. Think I should teleport? Uncle has a long-distance one around here somewhere.” She smiled into the phone, still happy about seeing her uncle.

He laughed and sat up straight on his bed, "Really? You'll come? I've got to warn you, De's Dad is... uh, none FMS." he said, trying to keep quiet enough for him to not hear. "Come to Newcastle train station and I'll pick you up," he said to her, trying to think of a good enough place for her to teleport straight to without being seen. "Um, behind platform 7 is always empty. Can you get it that accurate without having seen it?" he asked, suddenly worried, but already collecting the keys from his drawers.

Mayu laughed, pulling off her clothes. The sound of clothes rustling was heard over the phone, she was sure. Quickly she pulled on a pair of skinny jeans, the high black boots resting over the material. A light, feathery, top covered her, the kind that showed off her shoulders, a light white jacket would be all that kept her warm. After a second thought she put on a Indian feather necklace, just for a splash of color. “Of course! Hang on.” Her words were fast as she pounded down the stairs and her uncle. He laughed, waving her off gently.
Mayu stopped in front of a small box, filled with tiny earrings. She picked up one and held onto it tightly, focusing on where Melville had told her to go. Without uttering a spell she managed to land unseen at the correct platform. Yay. “Awesome! I’m here!” she laughed, leaning against a wall.

He laughed again, grabbing his jacket and rushing out the door, "Hang on, I haven't even got to the car yet!" he said, opening the door and rushing into his little black Ford Ka. He climbed inside, telling her, "Right, I'm gonna have to hang up for now. I'll be there in about five, OK? Now-" he struggled with his seatbelt, distracting him from what he was saying, "There should be some massive arches if you go over the bridge. I'll meet you there. Bye!" he said, hanging up quickly. Usually he would continue talking, but he'd only just got his license and had no intention of losing it so quickly.
