Ty sat on the wooden planks as he listened to the calm ocean going by, waves crashing. His town hadn't been anywhere close to the water, and he had never seen this much of it at once. It made him feel at ease to listen to the rise and fall of the water. He wished the term would start sooner, so he could finally learn how to use magic. He sighed and looked out. It seemed endless.

Diane walked along the harbor, her thick soled shoes clattering loudly against the rotting wood, but she didn't mind. She was too busy munching on one of many cereal bars her father had packed for her. The cool air was refreshing - this place was far warmer and drier then she was used to, though it wasn't surprising considering she had come from one of the wettest countries she knew of. The sea salt filled her lungs, filling her with memories.
She looked out to the sea, standing very close to the boy and putting her hands deep into the pockets of her big black coat. She looked at him through the corner of her eye, and back to the sea. She noticed he looked young, and guessed he was a first year. She remembered how daunting it all was for her back then.
"Are you from FMS?" Diane asked him, still looking out to the water, trying to appear casual about meeting the stranger.

Ty nodded, still facing the ocean for a few more seconds before getting up and turning around to introduce himself. " My name's Ty." he said, quickly glancing at the cereal bar and hearing his stomach growl. Ignoring it, he added "I'm new here."

She smiled and shrugged, saying, "My name's Diane. It's nice to meet you," suddenly unable to eat her food anymore. She found it awkward to eat around other people, probably because it stopped her from being able to talk - something she either never had a chance to do, or did continuously. "I remember my first day of FMS. Or at least my first week or so." her eyes glistened with memories as she looked out into the sea, and told him, "My mother told me about this Harbor. One of the kids told her that if you push your hand as far out as possible, then you can actually feel the break in the Magic-Free Protection, but only if you're really well practiced at magic."
Diane covered her cereal bar loosely in its wrapper, and stretched out her hand into the water as far as she could, even kneeling down and using the other hand to grab onto the wooden board as leverage.
She sighed and stopped, looking back at the boy, "I try it every year, and I'm starting to think she was just joking."

Antosha walked along the rotting wood, his boots hitting the wood with a soft thud. He pulled his hoodie tighter around him, making sure his face was mostly covered. The water put him at an ease he wasn't used to, it was almost hypnotic. Whenever he was at the harbor he felt calm, like for once everything would be okay. Magic was different then what he did at home, here there were rules and boundaries. It was nothing like he thought it would be, it still wasn't. He chuckled to himself, remembering his first year here. Thinking it would all be easy and he could learn Necromancy then leave for a darker academy, no one had told him about the rules yet.
Anosha kept walking, laughing as his hoodie's long tails getting caught in the breeze. He looked away from the water for a few moments, looking around hopping to locate a few student from the FMS. Just up ahead he spotted Diane and a boy talking. Hopefully he wouldn't intrude, smiling shyly he walked up behind Diane and hugged her around the waist "Hey Dee, who's the boy?" he asked, putting his chin on her head. Just being around Diane was fun, it was like she was a clown. Bright, fun, and completely silly. Glancing at the boy again he did a once over, taking in the boy appearance. He looked okay, but he just wasn't Antosha's type.

SHe let out a small yelp as she was taken by surprise by the arms around her, turning completely ridged until she heard his voice. She still was a little unsettled, embarrassed that she had been so surprised and that she had made the sound of a frightened chihuahua. Her face turned bright red. "Antosha!" she shouted, playfully batting against his arm. She tried to struggle against his arms, but was too afraid of falling into the water to make much of an effort.
She finally accepted his presence, and told him, "This is Ty." she said, saying the name slowly and studying him carefully as she said it in case it was the wrong name or she'd misheard him. "He's new this year."
