I hope she opens it. Maon thought, leafing through a fantasy novel called "The Ragwitch". He wasn't really reading it, rather glaring at the pages while he was lost in thought. Did I put it somewhere where she'll see it? Will she come? He went over what he did for the tenth time in the last thirty minutes: One: He bought a small book for Daine. Two: He put the following letter in the book for her: Dear Daine, Unless you didn't open it today, you are reading this on December fifth, more commonly known as 'Christmas.' I require your help with a problem I have. Come to the library tomorrow at six P.M. From, M.A. Three: He wrapped the gift. Four: He set up a transfer spell and transported the present to her bed while she was out. It was now five fifty-five the day after Christmas. Hopefully she would show up soon. She was the only one he could turn to.

She opened the door of her room slowly, looking around it with what seemed like a new pair of eyes. Everything was exactly as she'd remembered, as she realised as she breathed out in relief slightly. She moved over to her bed, seeing the parcel neatly wrapped inside. A little confused, she opened the wrapping carefully, holding the book in her hands lightly, looking down at it. Instinctively, she flicked through the pages, finding the letter as it fell softly to the floor.
Her eyes widened and then frowned as she read the letter. M.A.? Who's name did she remember with those initials? It took her a little while to remember Maon, which seemed to make sense. So, he was giving her a present? She felt a little guilty that she had missed him from her Christmas list, but from the sounds of it he was after something....
Boxing day came. Her head was pounding, even after she had taken more than enough medication to dull it. She checked the clock quickly, afraid suddenly as she got ready to go. What would he want? Whatever it was, the likelihood was that she would no longer be able to do it - if she ever could.
"Maon," she said, walking over to him with a polite smile, "M.A., yeah?"

Maon looked up at Daine, looked her over with dull, tired eyes, then nodded. Right on the clock. He gestured to a chair across from his, thinking it was impolite to leave her standing. put a page marker into his book and placed it under his chair, then sat upright. "Thank you for coming." He mumbled, already feeling the urge to pick his book back up. He wanted to be polite, and he had read that reading while talking to someone could be considered rude.

She smiled, a little unsure as she looked at the chair and giving another polite smile as she sat down. She was a little nervous; she had no objections to speaking to Maon outside of lessons, but she had always had the feeling he had the objections to her. "You said you needed help...?" she asked slowly, not wanting to seem impolite by moving straight to 'business', but realising they'd probably feel uncomfortable with small talk.

He nodded. "With a problem that I cannot solve. I am in search of someone with special qualifications, but to find said person I would have to-" He shuddered slightly."talk to people. As you know, I'm not too good at that. So I thought you could help." He looked at her in his own pleading way, which was no diffrent from his usual look. It would take alot for him to do puppy-eyes.

Diane smiled, mentally letting out a sigh of relief. That, she at least thought, she could do. "Sure, Maon, I'd be glad to help." she said, leaning back into the seat now she thought she could relax. "Who are you after?"

"Somebody with something called a 'Spirit Guide.' I checked all the books in the library, but unfortunatly," He sighed, grimcing. "the books only referanced to them. I have no idea how to find out what they are, nor what they even do." He looked Daine in the eyes. "I was hoping you would know."

She felt all of the colour fading from her, the quickly flushing her cheeks as she looked down. Her chest still hurt, her head still pounded, and he had the nerve to ask her that? Of course, he didn't know, but she still found it hard to speak, "I-I don't think you should be looking for that Maon." she said slowly, barely able to say that simple sentence and unable to look at him.

Maon raised an eyebrow. What's with that reaction? Interesting... "Why not? I absolutely have to find someone with one." He turned his head and looked at her with a sideways glance. "I used to want to get one myself, but from your reaction I'm thinking they're dangerous."

She closed her eyes and shook her head, "They're... like bad luck." she said slowly, "If you're not being affected by the spirits yet then you're lucky and you shouldn't go looking at their world because... because they'll find you." she said, her voice barely a whisper, holding herself tightly and looking around. Could he hear her right now? Was he watching, laughing?

He thought about what Daine had said. Bad luck? Hm... This was alot like the protection through innocence in a novel he had once read. Wait, how did she know so much? Perhaps... "You have one, don't you?" He asked, eyes widening slightly. If she did, it would make things so much easier on his part.

She felt her skin tingling with a cold chill as she gritted her teeth, shaking her head slowly, looking around herself. "No..." she said slowly, "But I did," she said slowly, unsure exactly how much to say. She didn't want to tell him everything - she barely knew him, at least on a personal level. But if it meant protecting him then she would bare all, just to put him off, "It almost killed me. And probably soon will." she told him, her voice flat and cold. She couldn't be Diane to say that, she had to pretend she was someone very far away, completely unaffected by it all.

"Hm." Maom mumble, wondering what had happened to her. "Too bad." So spirit guids weren't always a good thing. But her problems with it didn't concern him too much at the moment. What did was that he still needed to find someone who had one. "Do you, perhaps, know somebody who has one at the moment? It really is important."

She looked up at him, barely able to understand him, "Maon, did you not just hear me? No matter how important this is, it's not important enough! It's not worth it!" she said, her voice raising slightly as people started to look around at them, but she couldn't keep herself in control. "Maon, he possessed me, took away everything I had, some things I still don't know about. He tried to kill me, tried to kill my friends..." she shook her head, "What could be so important?" she asked, curiousity beating her anger.

He turned to face her. Wow, she went through alot. "Getting rid of all the other spirits, that's what." He crossed his arms. "I'm guessing you already know this, but many evil spirits were released from imprisonment some time ago. If what your spirit did to you was bad, and he was a guide, imagine what a group of malevolent spirits could do."
