Tom had unpacked his things and decided to go work out. His wand hang broken was useless, but he was working on a new idea, one that if right, would prove to the magical world that he was smart. He got to thinking as he concentrated on his hand. If he could use a wand to focus, then use his hand as well. A object was simply used to focus, so what if he could focus without one?
He was scared to tell anyone his idea. What if he failed? Or almost as scary, what if he didn't. He closed his eyes, feeling as if a wand was in his hand felt the heat build up in his arm, his chest, his hand, the fingers almost burning. Then release as a ball of flame flew from his hand, not a large one, nor was it powerful. However, the theory was correct.
he closed his eyes and savored the feeling. Now what to do?

Her high heels clattered against the highly polished floor, as walked slowly across, listening to each individual clip and clop. She was on her way to teaching her second Necromancy lecture of the semester, preparing to see a whole new group of faces look at her in disgust. For once, she was in no rush to teach the subject she loved.
It was only that she had been walking so slowly did she see the flash of colour in the corner of her eye. Curious, she took a step back and peered her head around the corner, seeing the boys fireball turn back into dust.
Welcome to the change, she moved around the corner, and stood in front of the boy, watching him carefully and trying to study him. "Impressive work, Mr Ritter," she said, remembering his name after having spent long hours staring at the sheets for his transferal. "An entire fireball without a wand is usually only achieved during the first year of additional training to school," she commented, taking a step forward to him. "I am Ms Jackson, your Headteacher." she said, holding out her hand for him to shake.

Tom blinked. Here he was sneaking off to try something new and who of ALL people find him? His Headteacher. Of course she did, it couldn't be a first year student or some idiot no, it HAD to be THE person that was going to decide if he made it or not. he reached his hand out to shake hers, feeling the blush climb into his hairline.
"Glad to meet you Ma'am I was just trying something new. I thought that maybe rather than use a object, like a staff or wand, what if we could learn to focus our powers without them?"

She nodded, letting go of his hand slightly quicker than she had expected, "Ah, I see. You are using Psychics to cast Kenetics spells... impressive." she said, trying to sound like she was impressed. Actually, she was impressed with the level of magic that he used without using some sort of conduction, in the form of a wand or staff or ring or some other object. She found herself studying his hands in case there was something hidden inside them. "The idea itself is a simple one, and it has been used for years," she told him, feeling like she should break it to him slowly. "The reason why we are so inclined to use our trinkets is exactly what you saw - it takes far more effort to produce something half the size without them."

He allowed his shoulders to sag a tad. "Yeah, I keep trying to break that barrier, but I keep falling back on what I've been told, not what I KNOW to be true. It's.. well to be honest its frustrating as hell." he blushed as he realized what he'd said and to whom.

She smiled and nodded. It made a pleasant change to see how a student had so much inspiration, not only to do the things that he was taught about, but test if they were true or not, "Barrier's are made to be broken." she said, "Though rules are not. As long as you continue to keep with the rules, there's no problem in testing what you've been taught."

He stammered. never before had he ever been told that it was ok. Every other school damned him, told him he'd be evil like the rest of his family. And here was a teacher telling him it was ok! "I uhh.. are you sure?" he asked narrowing his eyes. his was very unfamiliar territory. "I'd always been told that performing magic that wasn't approved was a offense." Then in a rush he spat out. "But someone HAD to test them once, someone came up with these spells these rules, which means that someone either hundreds of years ago or more has pushed the rules or even broken them to LEARN, not for evil sake or glory but for the joy of learning. It's HARD to unlearn all you know and simply let magic work through you." He struck his arm out while talking feelign the heat the magic swell up in him knew the spell was coming but refused to think about it. "I feel the magic working, it's almost as though I'm simply a conduit for it, I control and shape it, but its a raw force and when it wants to be released..." Suddenly a large ball of hot blue flame shot out from his outstretched hand The heat rolling back across them but the focus being the target.
