The kitchen was Brynn's ultimate comfort zone. FMS's kitchen was no different. He had all the ingredients he needed to make art. Brynn walked around the kitchen grabbing flour, cinnamon, sugars, eggs, and more to make some sugar cookies.
Baking was one of his favorite things to do. Especially if he was stressed out. Brynn smiled as he began combining the ingredients humming a tune to himself. After the dough was done he started working on making the frostings. After a few minutes of mixing he had blue, green, and pink icings.
Finally he stuck the cookies in the oven the sweet smell wafting through the kitchen and probably traveling through the halls. Making everything smell sugary and sweet. He smiled. This was one of his favorite parts, but not as good as actually eating the cookie.

Diane was starving. She found it hard to eat to the schedules that the school gave her, rarely liking most of the food that they set in front of her, and so was on her way to the kitchen to see if any of the cereal bars she had donated to them had survived.
She stepped into the kitchen, only noticing that Brynn was there after walking inside; she knew that she couldn't leave without feeling self-conscious, and she knew that she was better than this petty rivalry (even if she wasn't while drunk).
"Hey," she said, opening one of the cupboards to the side where the bars had been. She saw to her dismay that they were no longer there, but sitting up on the very top shelf. She looked up, lifting her arm and finding herself far too short. She knew that Brynn was more than tall enough, but she was afraid to ask for his help; she didn't exactly deserve it.

Brynn looked up from icing a sugar cookie. It had a smiley face on it. He topped it off and noticed a voice. Undeniably it was Diane's. "Hey Diane..." he said continuing to ice the fresh cookies. It was a tad awkward, the silence between them. Already there was a thick blanket of silence. He looked back at her trying to reach the cereal bars.
He decided to help without question. "Here let me help..." He said walking up barely reaching the box but he got it. "But why have a cold cereal bar when you can have a warm cookie." He said grabbing a smiley face sugar cookie offering it to Diane. "They're fresh." Brynn smiled.

She took the packet of cereal bars, holding it loosely in her hand as she stared at the cookies. They looked amazing, but she couldn't help but read more into it. Was this some kind of peace offering? She had to admit, she liked being able to talk to Brynn, or at least just be around him without having the feeling that everyone was hating her for ruining the atmosphere.
"Thanks," she said, putting down the cereal bars and accepting the cookie, feeling how it still felt satisfyingly squishy in the middle. "Smells amazing," she admitted, smiling shyly as she took a bite, smiling and nodding in approval.

Brynn smiled. "Thanks I'm making these for Mayu in exchange for the book she gave me..." He thought for a second. "Isn't she your roommate? Would you mind delivering these for me?" He asked her returning back to the cookies beginning to ice a new one. This one was completely iced with some sprinkles over it. "Of course you can have some too I always make extra" He smiled happy she liked his cookies. "I do love baking."

She leaned back against the counter, watching him make the finishing touches to all of the cookies. She scanned them all, wondering just how Mayu would eat all of these - as tasty as they were she was finding the after taste quite overpoweringly sweet and struggling just to finish her one. She smiled as she took another bite, however, knowing that the taste far outweighed the nausea.
She watched him carefully as he worked, realising just how much of a nice thing he was doing. Everything he seemed to do for her friends seemed to be nice and selfless... unlike Diane. "You know, you're not bad," she admitted, "Not that I thought you were bad before," she corrected quickly, then had to also correct that, "Well, no I kind of did, but that was just because I was drunk and there was a lot and.... yeah." she paused for a moment, deciding to think before she made even more of a fool of herself. "I just mean, I get that you're a decent guy, and you're just trying to do the right thing." she turned around, leaning on the bench and looking up at him, "I just want my Anty in good hands, yeah?"

Brynn added one last touch to his cookies before letting them cool so the icing wouldn't smudge. He pulled out a box and some colored tissue paper he'd brought along to wrap it up. Brynn listened closely to what Diane had to say. "Well thank you, honestly I never didn't like you to start, drunk or not. I was only merely upset. Upset that even though we aren't very close friends one person gets in the way of us at least being ok friends..." He sighed stuffing the box with paper making an area for 15 of the cookies.
He looked up at her. "I think you’re a great person as well." He said beginning to gently package the cookies. "Honestly I want to tell you something..." Brynn put what he was doing down and turned to her. "Ant really likes me, and I think it's scary. Not like stalker scary but I don't know if I can like him that much back..." He said rubbing his head. "It's confusing, I don't know how much I like him, as a friend or what. And it's confusing me." He said turning back to his work. "But your lucky I know Ant likes you for you, what inside. You've been friends for awhile." Brynn stopped packing things.
He was looking down not doing anything with his hands. "And maybe I'm just another face..." He said not sure where he was going with everything he said. Or if any of it made sense. Maybe he was rambling on. "I...I don't know..." He finished quietly. "I'm probably making no sense I was never good at piecing together a sensible reply." Brynn laughed dryly. Writing a little letter on paper for Mayu he placed it inside so she'd know it was from him. He put the top on. "I like this...us being able to talk without anyone else to pressure us..."

Diane listened to him talk, shocked that he was revealing so much about his real feelings to what had once been his rival. But he was right, and there was no point in there being any bad feelings between them. She understood every word he said, listening patiently and sympathetically, and for the most part emphatically, nodding to the bits which she had experienced first hand.
"Listen," she said, a tone in her voice forcing him to give her some attention, "You're right, I have known Antosha for a long time, and I can tell that he's really interested in you, and I can tell that you're interested in you. I know it can be a little daunting, like you're being pushed into liking him because he likes you, but honest I can tell that you genuinely like him."
"The main reason why I was so upset was because I knew that Antosha didn't want to admit to what he was feeling; at least not to me anyway. He feels ashamed somehow. Maybe he's just embarrassed that you won't like him back? Or, kind of more likely, he doesn't quite know how he feels either." she said. Yes, that was the real reason, she convinced herself.
She shook her head, smiling as she told him, "Antosha is the sort of guy that I want to spend the rest of my life with. Maybe not in a relationship, but if I can I want him beside me always. So we're probably going to end up spending a lot of time together. So maybe we can jack us up to 'ok' and see if we get any higher than that?"

Brynn noddedd to what Diane was saying. He felt more assured of himseld with that piece of info. "Thanks Diane...er, De...If I can call you that?" He said smiling. "And I think I'd like to be 'ok' for now at least." He grinned again.
"Well I'm pretty much done in here, I guess I'll clean up and wrap up the rest of the cookies your welcome to take any more. But I only ask one favor and that is to get this box of cookies to Mayu and send it with my thanks." He smiled handing the warm box to Diane. "Thanks a bunch" He turned begining to wrap up the cookies and put dishes in the sink to wash.

She put the last part of her cookie in her mouth, hardly able to chew she was smiling so much, nodding as he suggested the new name. Somehow the name was no longer just a name - it was a social status, like she had suddenly changed from De-baka to De-san. Things like this never usually seemed to go to plan. She swallowed and nodded, "I'll send them over straight away," she said, jokingly saluting him as she grabbed the box, heading for the door.
She stopped at the door, hanging onto the frame as she looked back and said, "Thanks for everything. We should do this more often." before disappearing around the corner.

He was not looking at her, since he was washing the dishes but he heard her. Brynn smiled at De's last words. He felt better, a lot better really now there wouldn't be so much tension. He smiled to himself.
