She made her way to the cafeteria slowly. She was starting to feel weak from hunger, and though she was enjoying the change in feeling she still felt that she probably would need something to keep her alive.
She walked through the cafeteria, looking at the groups and quickly looking down again. They were all looking at her, talking between themselves in low voices, trying to be subtle with their gossiping and failing. She blushed; she'd been in the lime-light from her dead relatives for too long now, and she had no intention of staying in it.
She hurried across the laminate flooring, making her way into the back where the kitchen was. Her speakers for her iPod were still in the corner from the last time she'd been there with Brynn. She smiled, picking up her iPod and putting it on shuffle, really not minding what came on.
Evanescence. Typically depressing music, she was unsurprised, walking over to the cupboards as she thought to herself well, it could be worse.... Her eyes scanned the food quickly, finding her stomach hurting just from the idea of eating something big, her thoughts spinning from the idea of making something special.
She reached to the top shelf, quickly finding her cereal bars and taking on out, walking back to beside the speakers and sitting on the floor, resting her head back against the wall. Huh, only two hundred calories. That'll do for today. she said, unwrapping the bar and listening to the lyrics of death and sorrow.

She peered around the cafeteria quickly, pale blue eyes wide. The place was fairly crowded, and the buzz of conversation hung thick in the air.
She slowly made her way in, head low. It felt a bit weird being one of the younger students there, and she had a feeling finding friends would be tough. Everyone seemed to be in a group of their own, in their own age range. Except for her.
Ellie looked up once more, and headed into the kitchen. Her stomach was pretty knotted up with anxiety, but she decided to give a bit of food a try. Maybe it would calm her nerves.
She spotted another figure sitting on the floor and modestly stepped back. It was probably just another one of those older teenagers. But this girl seemed different. Like, she needed someone to talk to.
Cautiously approaching her, she spoke, "Er... hello there," were the only words that came to mind.

She folded up the wrapping of the cereal bar neatly as the last bite went into her mouth. She smiled up at the girl, noticing first how young she was and wondering why she would even be talking to someone her age. She smiled, suddenly remembering how she had done the same, and it had only been this year that she had developed all the friendships with those her own age.
"Howdy," she said, fake saluting her as a equally fake smile spread over her face. She pulled herself up off the floor, instinctively changing the music for something a little more company-friendly, "I'm guessing you're new here..." she said with a smile as she flicked through her iPod's music.

She gave a half-smile and stepped back as the girl stood. She noticed the change in music and relaxed a bit, spine less stiff with anxiety.
"Yeah, I am." she replied in answer to her guess, "It's kinda... different here compared to my old home." she admitted with a nervous glance around the kitchen. She coughed slightly, attempting to cover her slight Russian accent. She hated it so much; it made her sound so strange compared to the other students.

She smiled casually, putting the iPod on the floor and moving over to the other side of the kitchen to put the wrapper in the bin. It was hard to be still around people for her. "Different because of magic or different in general?" she asked, walking back over to next to the speaker and leaning against the nearest bench.
"I remember when I first came here... It was frightening, but really fun all the same," she said with a shrug, pulling herself up to sit on the bench. "Where are you from, by the way? Your accent sounds familiar... Eastern European? Russian-ish?" she asked cautiously, worried that it was wrong. She had once accidently said that an Austraillian accent was American, so needless to say she was not particularly good at telling accents. Her own British accent shone clearly, despite being split between geordie and very slight cockney, and with slight hints of the accents of her friends including Antosha's Russian accent every so often.

She shrugged. "I guess generally. It's a bit strange waking up to the sound of something other than a goat," she admitted with a small chuckle. "But it looks like fun here." she finished with a smile.
She grinned at the girl's question. "You're correct. Latvija, to be exact." she replied, eyes bright. She cocked her head to the right slightly. "And where might you be from? Maybe Great Britain?" she guessed curiously.

Diane smiled and nodded, "England, to be precise, though on the Scottish boarders." she said, giving an appauling false Scottish accent with the words 'Scottish Boarders'. She was quite impressed that they had both guessed correctly.
She smiled and shrugged, everything she knew about Latvia coming to mind - though she had to admit it wasn't a lot. All she knew was that every year they managed to have the foreign relations to almost win the Eurovision song contest. Not very helpful. "My friend's from Russia," she said with a shrug. "Though I'm guessing its quite a different place. Oh, my name's Diane, by the way. Diane McLain." she said with a nod, resisting the urge to say her name in a 'Bond, James Bond' way.

Ellie nodded, "That's very neat. I've always wanted to visit places like England, but I've yet to pass the goat pen, unfortunately." she said, thinking back to the many times she had attempted and failed to go explore the valley. Those experiences hadn't ended very well. She'd been doing chores around the home for a week after that. And it was rather stuffy in there; she couldn't stand being cooped up like a little chicken.
Her eyes grew as she heard the words "friend" and "Russia" in the same sentence. That was really cool! She giggled and held a hand out, "My name is Emilija Klause, but you can just call me Ellie, if you'd like. It's a pleasure to meet you."

She grinned widely; it seemed that all of her problems were momentarily forgotten, but in that realisation she knew that they were lurking just around the corner for her. "You should make the most of looking around while you're here then!" she told her, shaking her hand before sliding off the bench. "It's a pleasure to meet you too, Ellie." she said softly, while looking around herself uncertainly.
"I-um, I feel like I should warn you that if you think people are looking at us it's more likely to be looking at me..." she said slowly; she knew that she would have hated to be kept out of something as big as what she was going through when enterring a new school and a new world. "Um, my roommate and step-brother both died last week." she said, the words feeling like pulling out shrapnel that the blow had left behind. Everytime she said it aloud it was healing, and painful.
"But!" she shouted a little loudly, clapping her hands together, "But but but... We shall not let that get in the way. Do you want me to show you around the school?" she asked, eager to move around.

Ellie shook her hand and smiled warmly. She was almost sure her count of friends had changed: from zero to one.
Her expression became pained, yet sympathetic at her next words. "I'm so sorry for your loss.." she murmured, eyes wide. That sounded horrible. She held back the questions that threatened to come loose: What had happened? Why had it happened? What were their names? She bit her lip; this probably wasn't the right time or person to ask.
At Diane's offer, she nodded eagerly. "That would be great!" she replied with a grin. Maybe it would take her mind off of her problems for a while? She could only hope.

She returned her grin, though it felt shattered and broken to her, like she had put a dark cloud upon them. Quickly, she took the girl's hand, walking forwards and half-dragging her away, for the strange idea that she could somehow outwalk the darkness. "Well, I see you've already found the kitchen." she said, bringing them through the door that brought them to the main part of the Cafeteria, where she let go of her hand and walked through carefully, avoiding anyones eyes. They were gossiping again, she was sure, and she was suddenly glad that she had told Ellie why they were talking. "And this is the cafeteria." she said under her breath.

Ellie nodded and followed, stumbling a bit as older students pushed roughly past her. She frowned, a bit frustrated. She was going to have to do something impressive to make herself look bigger. That's it... she would show them, she thought with a determined look.
She nodded as Diane introduced her to the main Cafeteria. It looked alright, except for the looks people seemed to be shooting at her guide. She couldn't help but roll her eyes. How pathetic.

She shrugged, seeing Ellie's reaction to those watching, walking quickly to the doorway and stepping out. It was cold; she had forgotten just how cold it was without her jacket, and it was starting to snow again. "You get use to it..." she said, pointing back to the glaring people with her thumb.
With a click of her fingers she teleported her coat from her room into her hands, putting it on quickly, while explaining, "Subjects are split into the Upper and Lower building. The Upper one is the really modern one with lots of rooms, and the other is old with mostly lecture theatres," she said, making new footsteps in the snow.

She glanced back at the people in the cafeteria and nodded. "Okay." she replied before turning back to Diane.
Ellie watched in awe and amusement as her guide teleported her jacket to her spot. That was cool. She swiped some snow out of her pale hair and nodded again. "That sounds alright." she said, following the girl and pulling up her hood.

She smiled, walking towards the main buildings when she felt something vibrating in her phone. She reached down and took out her mobile, looking at the number and text curiously. "Oh frick..." she said under her icy breath, quickly shoving her phone back into her pocket. "Hey, I'm really sorry... Ellie." she said, blushing as she almost forgot her name, "But I've just realised I have a massive test tomorrow. Um... I could show you were the girl's rooms are?" she asked shortly, feeling terrible for ending the tour so abruptly.
