She blushed, realising why she almost failed her french tests, while sailing through almost every other subject.
She took the menu, quickly looking down to the mass amount of confusing and long names, all in french. "Uh... Lemonade, please." she said, remembering her manners well and smiling up at the waiter as he said it, before flicking back to the menu. "Uh... could I have the risotto, thanks?" she asked, finding it was one of the few things which she recognized the name of and it sounded nice.

Brendan smiled, feeling very childish to have ordered something Italian in a French restruant. A waitress came to them, balancing two pitchers on a silver platter above her head.
"Water for the gentleman." She said, pouring him water from the crystal pitcher.
"Lemonade for the lady." She said, smiling sweetly at Diane as she filled her glass. "Would you like a lemon?"
She sat the pitchers back on the silver platter as she laid two lemons on a small china plate beside Dianes glass. She wandered into the kitchen, then came back out with a bottle of wine for an elderly couple near their table.
"I-I know it sounds corny, but you look amazing, Diane." He said, looking at her from across the table. The flame on the candles waved here and there as he spoke. A light blush crept across his cheeks, invisible in the dark room they were in.

She blushed, offering many thanks to every member of staff that came through, time and time again. She had often been told that she said thank you too often, as was common in the area which she lived.
She smiled and blushed, taking a drink of the lemonade but leaving the lemons on the side. "Thanks..." she said, not quite sure how to take the compliment as her eyes looked all over the room, taking in all of the excitement. "As I said before you look.... wow." she said with a slight laugh, unable to think of any words that gave it justice.

Brendan smiled and looked down at the napkin he had placed in his lap. He knew it was very childish, but his father had taught him that it was polite and showed that he was concerned about how he looked and the condition of his clothes. He really missed his dad now that he was here.
"Thank you." He mumbled, brushing his hair out of his forehead again. He continued to look down at his napkin until the waiter came with their food. Setting the meals down in front of them, he bowed slightly from the waist and made his way back into the kitchen, where he came out many minutes later with someone elses meals. Braxton reached for the fork beside his plate, then pulled his hand back quickly. He reached for it again, and dove into his food, his stomach growling quietly from his end of the table. And even though he was as hungry as he ever had been, he ate slowly, trying to seem polite.

"Thank you," she breathed again, barely heard as she was starting to get embarrassed by how much she was saying that to the waiters. She took her fork, what she assumed was the right one to have, and took a bite of her food. It was wonderful and she smiled. "Really, really good. Is yours nice?" she asked, knowing that from now on at least they would hopefully be let alone.
It was now the part she dreaded and looked forward to the most. The smalltalk, the ability to exchange pleasantries with a fake interest and a polite smile. It would be the make or break point, to see if they were destined to be or if it was just physical attraction.

Brendan nodded, munching thoughtfully on a meatball.
"Mm.. Very good." He said, picking up another fork and twilrling the spaghetti on it and reaching across the table to feed it to Diane. He took another bite, wiping his mouth with another napkin as he felt the warm, slightly sweet sause drip onto his chin and thankfully not on his shirt or tie. He bit the inside of his lip, feeling the tension now more than ever. Something about being alone but not alone at all made him a bit uncomfortable. He didnt want to say or do something wrong and scare her off. He felt as if he was walking a tightrope over an abyss of monsters, their claws reaching up for his ankles, their mouths open wide to threaten him with their bloody fangs, just wanting to take a bite out of him.

She tried the food, nodding to herself and trying desperately not to laugh as she covered her mouth in case she did, finally managing to compose herself enough to chew thoughtfully. "Yeah, its nice." she said, smiling and lowering her head as she tried to not laugh through the awkwardness, sliding her hand across the table so that Brendan could take it if he was feeling nervous. She only needed one hand to eat risotto anyway, since it only needed a fork. "You want to try mine?" she asked, scooping the food onto a fork and looking up, waiting for the next conversation piece to come along. "Oh, did you find out what was wrong with Braxton?" she asked, suddenly remembering.

Brendan shook his head as she asked him if he wanted to try her food. Chances were, he would be allergic to something in it. That would be just his luck. Then he would have to spend the night alone in his dorm in his monkey suit.
"Yeah.." He mumbled quietly. "Mom sent him a letter.. Dad died a couple days after I transferred..."
He shrugged and looked glumly at his food. His dad may have been an abusive drinker, but he was really supportive when it came to Brendan. He would have given him everything he wanted if he could have. But they were poor. Until Brendan got a job and started bringing in the income. Then they finally got enough money from Brendans job and child support from his mother to move into a suitable house. His Dad then sent him here.
"Yeah.. H-Hes takin' it hard.. He didnt get to know him.."

"Oh..." she said, putting her fork down and staying uncomfortably silent for a little, not regretting that she had asked but still feeling guilty for this. "I'm sorry to hear that." she said, taking her drink and taking a small sip, really not quite sure how to say any more. "A-and I'm sorry for dragging you out when he needs help." she admitted again, and she really wanted to say that it was alright if he wanted to go and help him, but found herself unable to say the words in case he left her.

Brendan shook his head and looked at her, forcing a smile onto his lips.
"One thing youll learn is that Brax needs to be alone in times like that.. He feels like hes croweded and everything gets worse if someone is there." He took another bite of his spagehtti, trying to make it seem as if it didnt bother him. But the talk of his father made him no longer hungry, as if someone had reached inside him and took away his appetite.

She nodded thoughtfully, putting down her glass slowly and taking her fork back in her hand. She too, felt like she had almost lost her appetite, barely able to force herself to put on the pretence. The conversation needed to change, and quickly. "I'm completely different," she said, looking up at him and offering him a warm smile, her tone slipping back into that of polite chatter. "When I'm upset, I just can't stay by myself. I feel guilty but... I have to talk through everything." she said, with a relaxed shrug. "I can be a chatterbox when I need to be."

Brendan laughed a bit to himself.
"You could never out talk me, baby. I have 4 gold metals in talking, a second place trophy, awards for days..." He smiled and took another bite of his food. He sipped his water, wrinkling his nose playfully. He had no idea why he had ordered water. He never drank water. He was slowly becoming comfortable again, the tension feeling as if it was residing. He looked at her sitting across the table from him, the candle commenting her features, and he thought that he had never seen a more beautiful girl in all his life.
And against his will, he thought he was falling for her... Hard.

She smiled at his joking, taking another bite as she looked up at him, her eyes piercingly genuine and pure. "Yeah, well, can you listen?" she asked, grinning as she leaned forwards, her face coming close to his as she spoke in a soft voice. "Too few people know how to talk and listen the right amount. Even I utterly fail at it," she said, her eyes narrowing playfully, "How do I know you'll get it right?" she asked him, slightly flirtatiously. The question seemed to be asking about more than just conversations.

Brendan leaned forward, pushing his plate away from him, indicating he was ready to leave, and he kissed her forehead.
"Dont you worry your pretty little head about it. I get everything right." He leaned back in his chair, running his fingers through his hair casually. He drummed his fingers on his thigh quietly, wondering what was to happen between them next. He wanted her, but not just physically. He was afraid that if he moved too fast, he would scare her off. Maybe I shouldve brought flowers... or chocolate... he thought, biting his lip gently. He was litterally going to drive himself insane as he sat there, contemplating what he should do next. Should he just bring her home? Or...
Then suddenly it struck him, as if by lightning. He sat up straighter and reached across the table to take her hand. "Are you ready to see what else te night has in store for you?"

She smiled and blushed as his lips brushed against her forehead. They were so soft, like mending a wound from what seemed like years ago. She looked up at him, smiling kindly through his silence. She could tell it was a little awkward for him, but she found herself perfectly calm in the atmosphere. She tried to think of some way to contradict his words, to show that he wasn't right at everything, but it seemed an impossible task.
It was because of this that during the silences she felt a slight tingling in her fingertips, worry that was lurking in the darkness and trying to fight into her conscious thoughts. She was inexperienced, and more than a little afraid that she would suddenly say or do the wrong thing that would shine this through. There was no way a guy like him wasn't experienced, she told herself, before hurrying the thoughts away.
"There's more?" she asked, taking his hand and softly rubbing her thumb against his fingers, hardly noticing she was doing it. She blushed a little, starting to get overcome by all of the attention, doubting she was worth any of it.
