Mayu looked up, still frozen on the inside. Everything was moving to fast for her, she was stuck, she was lost. Why in the world would anyone have brought her back, it was insanity. Nothing was special about her, it seemed more likely that Mel had been brought back then her. She was just a good for nothing waste of space.
Where was she headed anyway? Mayu looked up, trying to find where she was. A store, that's all she saw, a simple store with magical items in every shelf. She rubbed her hands in an attempt to warm up, peering at the building from beneath her bangs. Everything was getting weird. Why did the living world have to be so confusing?
She strolled the store, finding the simplest of actions tiring now. A familiar figure bobbed past her, someone who had once been the head teacher of her death place. But no, that was impossible. No way would the first person she encounters have to be someone she once knew from before. Her voice rang out, causing her to wince at the sudden noise.
“Ms. Jackson?”

Ms Jackson turned around quickly, a smile on her face as she expected just another of her old students to have walked in. She froze, the books in her hands slipping from her fingers and slamming onto the floor with a thud. Still, she didn't move, staring at the girl with open-mouthed shock. The last time she had seen this girl, it was at her funeral....
"M-Mayu?" she asked softly. "Oh... Oh Gods..." she said, suddenly coming back to life quickly as she leaned down, scrambling with the books in her horror, just wanting to avoid it as the adrenaline rushed through her. "What-what...?" she looked up at Mayu, hoping that she could fill in the blanks which Grace couldn't bare to hear.

She stumbled for an answer, trying to find words in the fuzz that was her mind. “I’m back.” She stated the obvious, trying to give a small shrug but ending up just fumbling for the counter. Mayu gave another weak smile, unable to say much more under her current state.
Everyone thought it would be so easy to summon someone from the dead, well it wasn’t. For starters it was a painful transition, the longer they were dead the worst it would be. Then you would feel cut off from everyone; feel as though you weren’t even human. After that you just tended to be tired, always tired and struggling for words.
“Is he back..?” she whispered, hoping her old teacher would know who she meant. Not that she needed to ask, Mayu already knew the answer. If Melville was back by now then he would have found her, would have found a way to contact her. He would do that, right?

Ms Jackson looked at Mayu, her body shaking as she looked at the miracle before her. Never in her life had she heard of a successful revival, and she had heard of many, many disasters. Those brought back inside out, with limbs and organs missing, senses lost forever or memories destroyed. Even as she scanned over her, she found it hard to believe.
But she found it harder to concentrate. "Please, for Gods sake, shut up." she said under her breath, then looked back at Mayu. "Oh, sorry, I wasn't talking to you," she said with a small blush, looking down. "Melville isn't-isn't back, no. But-but he's here, beside you, trying to get your attention." she said in a shaking voice, still unable to stop herself from staring. "Um... do you remember everything that happened?"

She gave a small smile, shaking her head while she sunk to the ground. “Before or after I died?” she asked, using the counter as her wall to keep from falling over completely. “God… I’m so... Tired...” she mumbled, trying to claw her way back up but only hitting a basket with candles, finding them to land on her head. Mayu laughed in her head, which was funny; she just hit herself. She turned to each side, trying to hear what Grace was talking about, only managing to hear her own hair move.

Grace looked down at her with concern. Was this a normal reaction to being revived? She searched through her memory for what few recollections of the dangerous spell existed; it was hard, since she had only read about them in her college years, and was never permitted to tell any of the students in case they decided it was a good choice.
She leant down beside her. "I-I meant.... after. Do you know how this happened, do you know who did it?" she asked, her words fast. She needed to know, as much as she didn't want to be an accessory to yet another unforgivable crime.
She closed her eyes tightly, gritting her teeth in irritant by some unseen force, "Melville, she is fine. Please, she cannot hear you, so just be quiet for now. I can barely hear myself think." she spoke to the air. His words were incessant, and although she could hear that he was screaming and shouting his words were so quiet they could barely be heard. It would take him some time before his spirit was strong enough to be heard clearly by Mayu.

Her eyes were fluttering closed, images fading to their normal black and white view. Or was color the normal thing to see now? Her heart fluttered, missing every other beat. It was so cold, so very cold. Why were all theses voices bothering her? “Hey Mel…” she mumbled quietly at his growing figure. Did this mean she was dying again, now that she could see him, or was she just fading?
Mayu shivered violently, watching as her panicked boyfriend faded out of view again. “Kurt…” she managed, peeling apart her blue tinted lips enough to speak. It was Kurt, right? It seemed so long ago to remember. “He was trying summon… A girl... Where me and Mel died... Somehow he got me instead…

Grace nodded. She (possibly thankfully) didn't know of any Kurt's that went to the school, since he had enrolled after she had left, and so she could only assume it was someone outside of the school and therefore unattainable. "Hey..." she said softly, more afraid than ever as she saw how weak Mayu was, wincing as Melville's voice was growing strong and more desperate than ever. "He says hi," she lied, unwilling to tell Mayu of all of the worrying things he was yelling.
She watched her carefully, saying "Mayu, you need to rest, get some food and water. You're alive now, you need to take care of yourself," she said with determination. "Come on, I'll get you something to eat," she said, pulling herself up and offering a hand for Mayu to do the same.

Mayu just nodded, slowly closing her eyes .She barely managed to find the energy to stand on her own, using Grace to support herself, wincing as the woman’s skin burned her own flesh. Was it even normal to be so cold? “What’s he saying?” she asked softly, more worried about hint hen herself. He was all alone with that Thing after them, could he ever be safe as a spirit or would he be devoured like the rest?

Grace lead her slowly up the stairs, taking her up to the back room up at the top of the stairs, where Jason Melville was sitting on one of the stairs. "Melville, could you watch the shop?" Grace asked the man. The names were associated so differently in her mind that she barely noticed that they were talking about two people with the same name, which could probably confuse Mayu.
She sat Mayu on the chair as the middle-aged man went down to the shop as she went to the tiny fridge and looked through for whatever she could find. "Melville? He's just saying that he's worried about you and wants to be with you," she said. He was saying so much it was hard to keep up. "He says he loves you and he doesn't want to be alone and... Melville, slow down!" she snapped suddenly, before taking a sigh. "He says he will be with you forever, and not to worry."

Mayu put her hand to her head, trying to focus on the words flying from her teachers lips. "How could I not worry? He's not here..." she mumbles, sinking into the uncomfortable chair like it was her bed at home. She smiled though, knowing he was probably talking Grace's ear off. That would be just like him, always worried about her. Something just couldn't be changed by Death.

Grace sighed, pulling out a small box with some sandwiches in it and passed it over to Mayu. It didn't really matter if she liked them or not, since it was more for substance than pleasure. She came and sat on the neighbouring chair, fully expecting her to fall asleep. It wouldn't be the first time an ill student fell asleep on that sofa recently, she said wondering if Brendan and Diane were alright. But that was neither here nor there.
"He says he is here, just you can't see him," she said with a small smile. "He's only been in the mortal plane a few hours, from the looks of him. His strength will grow in time. He will never be alive, but soon enough you will hear him again, and maybe even have a chance to see him." Grace told her, her words offering some consolation to Melville.

Melville was sat crouched in front of Mayu, trying desperately to look into her beautiful eyes, occasionally screaming shouting or just crying. "Why is she so weak? Why can't she just get better?! When will she see me! Mayu... please, Mayu...." he gasped, his words heard as if he was shouting them from a mile away to the old Necromancy teacher, and he knew that Mayu's magical hearing was not strong enough or tuned enough to the dead. "Mayu..." he still tried, closing his eyes tightly as he felt trapped inside his invisible world. He leaned forwards, waiting until she was perfectly still, and pressing his undead lips against her forehead. Where before it would have left no trace, he was evolving into a stronger spirit quickly and the kiss left a static, cold feeling where it had left.

She curled into a ball on the couch, wiping at her forehead as a cold spot appeared. "I miss him..." she whispered, tears running down her cheeks. Mayu looked up at her old teacher, speaking softly and calmly. “Why won’t he come back...? I want him here.” She might be selfish, but nothing felt right without having Melville to hide behind. It seemed like days rather then hours that they’ve been away. She reached over and grabbed a sandwich to nibble on, barely able to keep her eyes open any longer.

Ms Jackson nodded sympathetically. "I know, love..." she said slowly, brushing back her hair affectionately, "So many people have lost people they love. It's not easy, I know," she said nodding slowly, looking down. "But it gets easier. And at least you know he is close. And he can hear how much you miss him and he misses you too," she told her softly.
She looked around the warehouse, smiling to herself knowingly, an idea coming to her mind. "Mayu... I think you should get some sleep. Stay here, and just rest," she told her, standing up ready to switch off the lights so that she could sleep. She hoped that it would be a welcome surprise.
