Mayu just nodded, snuggling deeper into the couch as she watched her vision shifting again. "So cold..." she mumbled again, trying to warm herself by rubbing her arms. It just kept getting colder for her, was it too much to ask for her body to chose to be warm or cold? Everything was shifting too fast, one moment she could be solid, the next like boiling water. Mayu shivered, hiding herself in the depths of her mind, trying to imagine Melville was here with her.

As Mayu fell into sleep, the world of the dead awakened before her. Grace's shop sold the very same item which Diane had once given to Antosha as a present, which was a pendulum dreamcatcher, with the ability of letting a sleeper talk with the dead as if a crystal clear dream.
And so, Mayu in dream form would have been able to see Melville leaning over her, his hands pressed together as he prayed to every god and devil that he didn't believe in, and tears were streaking down his face. "Please be alright, Mayu... please don't get hurt. I'll always be here, I'll always be there for you," he said softly, his eyes closed tightly, unable to even watch her while her heart broke so much for him. "I love you, Mayu, I miss you so much, but I just want you to be happy, please Mayu..."

She had to be dreaming, right? No way could this be anything else? Unless she died of course, but then if she was dead he would have told her… “Why can’t you be here...?” her voice was soft, almost echoing against the nothingness. Mayu wondered if he would hear here, but then they wouldn’t be able to talk again so why would it matter. She turned away, unable to look at the man that could manage to cause her so much pain.

Melville's eyes flew open. Mayu was talking to him, sounding like she could hear him, "Mayu!" He gasped, jumping up and pressing her hand against him cheek. His heart would have jumped if he had one, as he found that his hand didn't just fall through her. They were touching, almost like the living, though Melville's skin was still so see through it could only be seen in certain lighting, like a reflection in glass. "Mayu, I miss you so much... I'm here, Mayu, I'm here..." he said, wrapping his arms around her. He knew that whatever was making this bridge between the living and the dead wouldn't last long, and he had to make the most of it. "I'll always be here for you, Mayu. I want to be able to see you and hold you properly again and I'm trying but I don't know how..." he said, shaking his head and feeling thoroughly useless.

Mayu just looked away, not wanting him to touch her anymore. It will be over soon enough anyway; no way could this perfect place last. “Maybe I should just die again…” she mumbled, talking more to the couch then to her dead boyfriend. What was life compared to love? It’s not like anyone had missed her, no one seemed to have even noticed her absence. Anto wasn’t even there to welcome her back.

Melville looked at her, completely heartbroken. "Mayu..." he said softly, leaning down to her and tilting her head towards him, even though he could barely be seen. "Mayu, I died for you. I died because I wanted to protect you. And I failed at that, and now I've been given a second chance. I'm still going to be beside you, Mayu, always."
He looked down, finding himself unable to look at her any more. It was driving him insane; he could feel his sanity and everything that was 'Melville' slipping away, trying to desperately remember what it was like to be alive, to be human. Like any other spirit, he wanted to be close to life - particularly his old one. More addicting than any drug, more soul destroying than anything. A part of him would force him if he could, though the closer he came to life the more he wanted to destroy that part and just run away, and so it was an equilibrium that could never be achieved. "Please... for me?"

She looked at him slowly, not willing to let the tears fall. Why was it that she was the only one to be gifted (cursed?) with life? "It will never be the same, will it?" her words were soft, barely audible in the darkness. Mayu shivered, feeling the ice of his touch seeping into her skin, feeling her slumber start to shake. "Your losing it, aren't you?..." it wasn't so much a question as it was a statement. She moved away from his touch, trying to stay here as long as she could.

Melville looked down, taking away his hands and turning them into fists. "Yeah..." he breathed a reply to her second question, unable to even bare the first. He didn't know exactly what she meant - losing the moment, losing his sanity, losing everything he ever cared about, but they all had the same answer.
He stood quickly, looking around himself and pacing uneasily, "I'll still be here when you're awake. I'll get strong, strong enough to talk to you whenever." he promised flatly.
