Jason nodded, finishing laying the black sand against the uneven ground beneath his feet. It was hard to believe the body of his son was below there. He could barely remember him, just vague images of holding a five year old child, forcing him into his room before he was subjected to his mother screaming and swearing.
He pushed the sandbags back into his bag, putting his hands back in as he pulled out several potions, handing a few to Mayu. "For protection," he instructed, hoping she knew how to use them.
He kneelt down on the ground inside the circle, instructing Mayu to do the same. He could feel the temperature inside the circle plummeting, a million dead eyes watching them, a low growling sound coming from the spirit of Melville which could be heard even in the real world as he warned the others to not come close. It was terrifying, Jason closed his eyes tightly, trying to become accustomed to the sound which made every part of his soul want to run. It seemed to be having a similar affect on the spirits, he noticed, as they all in turn took a step back.
"Think of only Melville. Speak only to Melville. Keep him with us, keep him convinced this is the right choice," he instructed slowly, watching Mayu carefully for moment, before beginning to whisper the words of a spell.

Mayu focused, closing her eyes as she easily blocked out all other voices. Yes, he scared her. But this would be good, this would be right. Being alive would mean he couldn't slip any further, being alive would make everything better. She focused entirely on Melville, the second one of course.

The words spiraled out of the Sargent's breath, the circle growing colder and colder. The spirits were clawing, all trying to fight forwards, as Melville's inhuman growls became louder and more piercing through the wave. The light dimmed around them, smothering them in a darkness so similar to what Melville's form was made of.
The flames of the candles swayed and jumped up, as if driven by some wind that could not be felt by anything but the soul, and still it seemed to grow darker. The black was smothering, threatening to drag them all into their depths, the screams of the dead trying to claw their way through the walls of fire, rushing to try and enter the rift that the spell was creating.
Before the darkness consumed completely, one spirit latched forwards, getting a hold of the breaking plane and pulling itself into the circle. A horrific scream echoed which vaguely resembled the growling from before, the darkness shuddering where Melville's spirit had been as it rippled across to where the spirit was trying to enter.
And suddenly, it was light again.
There was a daunting silence. The smoke from the burnt out candles trailed up into the bright sky, the only sound was their breathing.

Mayu didn't move, didn't dare to breath before she knew it worked. It took all of her mind to keep latched to the circle, eyes closed for fear of what she might see. She knew it wasn't a dream, but still she feared this being her life. She wanted so badly to speak out and ask if it had worked, but she didn't dare to.

It was deadly silent.
Jason looked around himself. The spirit world was definitely detached, and the only sense of death he could get was from Mayu in front of him. He could feel no other spirits around him, and a trickle of fear ran down his back. Had they just destroyed Melville's spirit? He breathed softly, afraid that if he made even the noise of breathing then he would miss some sign that he hadn't just done something awful...
He closed his eyes losely, giving up. He looked away, unable to look at Mayu, starting to pull himself up.
And then there was a sign. A signal. And not a pleasant one. He stopped, hearing something faint under the slight sound of him shuffling to get up. Even the wind seemed to loud to hear it fully. But then it was clear. Screams.
Jason froze, his heart pounding on his chest tightly as he heard the sound. The spell was meant to bring him to the surface, not leave him in his coffin! "Christ almighty..." he blasphemed, pressing his hands down against the ground. We'll get you out, keep calm he sent down to the reanimated body below, but if he heard it or not was unclear, as the screaming continued.

Mayu froze, unsure what to do in this case. After all, what was a dead girl supposed to do? She pressed her hands against the familiar earth, slowly digging her nail into it as she spoke. "Do you want me to move it, or what?" she smirked, a darker emotion then she'd ever shown before. The fact they just summoned Seth underground was making her want to laugh, but she had to resist for fear it might seem rude. It's not like we have to breath or anything, technically we're dead so he'd be fine down there... Her thoughts were ringed with amusement as she forced breath out of her lungs, focusing on the ground. She listen carefully, past the screams and to the slow and steady heart beat. "I swear... If someone else took his body I'll be pissed."

Jason breathed heavily under his breath, trying to work this all out rationally. After all, it had always been his talent to step back from a situation, assess it clearly and thoroughly before moving quickly forwards. Sometimes it was hard to see how he was related to Melville at all.
He took a step back, trying to remember the words to his spell, trying to visualize exactly where his coffin was under the ground. "Step back..." he warned Mayu, before whispering words.
Without knowing exactly where the coffin was, he had to take a big assumption. With a crackling energy, the Earth began to shiver and shake, the mound of ground below them growl like a volcano errupting. The screaming was louder, accompanied by thudding. The screams were calming, replaced by angry snarls and a cracking sound that echoed the thuds.
Finally, a wooden box pushed its way to the surface, and just as Jason was about to step forwards to open it, a splintering crack echoed through the forest, a thick line running down the center of the box. Another smash and it ripped further, a bloodied hand puncturing through the coffin and desperately clawing away the casing.

The hand smashed through the top of the box, black blood running down from his bleeding knuckles, a single red line crawling down his pale arms. Victory. He took in a deep breath, light streaming in from the new gap, filling him with hope. Life. This was life. Memories of the afterlife began to simmer and fade, as strange dreams upon waking. Nothing had seemed to make sense looking back, but now there was clarity. Now there was light. There was pain, real pain, rushing through all of his body. He remembered the cracking and reforming of limps, muscles and bones, the pain and his struggle between the life and death.
He thrust his arms to the side, the solid wooden box splintering like a child's toy under his heavy fists. It collapsed around him as he pushed them angrilly away, squinting against the cruel bright light above him.
He covered his eyes against the glaring light. Or rather, he covered his new eyes. Where he had once had a warming brown was replaced by a piercingly bright blue, glistening coldly and taking in all of the light around him. He looked around, clenching his teeth against the pain, still too tired and weak to raise himself.
His eyes fell onto what seemed as a shadow against the bright world. His eyes could fall onto the darkness more comfortably, slowly adjusting and focusing.... Mayu he thought, watching her carefully, wondering why he couldn't hear his own words before remembering he had to speak in this form. "Mayu..." he whispered, watching her with his silvery eyes.

Mayu smiled lightly, reaching out for his hand. "Welcome back, love." her voice was gentle. She knew from experience how painful and disorienting the transition could be, but already he seemed better then her. But from one dead person to the next, changes were subtle. Jason, can you tell any differences? her mind voice was weaker from being around Melville, his very presence was sucking energy from her like crazy.
Not that she would complain, her happiness was unmeasurable by the fact he was back. Mayu tried to remember to take things slow, trying to make it easier as she stood by his side. The blood wasn't bothering her, it wasn't like before at least, not the gruesomeness that had led to his death. "We've missed a lot..."

Mellville looked down at her, her words echoing numbly in his mind, finding it hard to understand what she was saying. It was as if she was speaking from miles away, like he had sounded when he had just gained a voice in the spirit world. But he saw her lips move, saw the look in her eye, and though his expression was blank he essentially knew what was happening.
He reached forwards, his skin brushing against hers tentatively. He took in a shuddering breath as if touched, and the expression in his eyes lit up. He had been expecting her to be a dream, to be kept from her like some cruel joke. His fingers threaded against hers, locking together though it hurt to bend his cracked fingers. He smiled.

Jason scanned over Melville, trying to see everything from a necromancial point of view. That was all he had. I didn't know him before this... he admitted to her, though she may have already known that. But he watched him carefully, waiting for any strange movements.
Obviously, there's the eyes... he told her psychically. He remembered seeing them fixed open, a dark brown colour, and now though the bright blue may have looked natural on the palest of blonds, on Melville it definitely struck instantly as being unnatural. He watched the eyes closely, saw how they flinched whenever they saw anything but Mayu. I don't know what that means yet... he commented. It was all fairly new territory, and who knew what could be found? There may be parts of memory or personality broken or removed, the weakness may be permanent or worse...

Whatever, it doesn't matter to me. He's back She smiled, leaning against her dead lover. No way could stupid crap mess with her now, or him. Dead people can't be harmed. Mayu paused, wondering what exactly what she should do when he just became living again. "Uhhhmmmm..." She muttered, looking back and forth from Seth to Jason.

Melville watched her closely, his hand breaking from hers but never daring to lose contact even for a moment as it traced up her arm, piece by piece realising that it was all real, and still hardly being able to believe it. She leant to him, and he pulled her close, trying to pull himself up as best he could into an embrace. He pressed his head against hers, closing his eyes tightly not just for the passion but because the world past Mayu's darkness was still startlingly bright, even if his eyes were beginning to adjust to it.
"Mayu..." he said slowly, pulling back, a numb fear trying to settle into his expression, but it was all so disorientating that it was hard to add another emotion to the mix. He looked down, and put a shaking hand on his leg, looking at them with timid confusion. "I can't feel my legs...." he said slowly, looking back up to Mayu.

Mayu paused, moving beside him as she chewed her lip. "I hate to say it, love. But it don't surprise me. I mean, considering the damage your body was under? It makes total sense.." She yawned, curling up on the ground while she spoke. Jason, take care of him. This cost too much energy for me. She hated to leave Melville since he had just returned, but it was either she fell asleep willingly or she did a face plant at random. Mayu smiled, the latter would probably have worried him most. "Ahh, Jason will take care of you, Mel. Just trust him, please." she mumbled, slowly slipping into her coma-like sleep.

Melville looked down at the girl curling up beside him. He couldn't really blame her for being so tired, when he too felt the drain and could only assume it would last for a long time. It had certainly been a long day. He looked up, a blinding light coming from beside him. He covered his eyes from it, seeing that the light was like the inverse of a silhouette. He couldn't look at it directly, but somehow knew what it was. "Jason..." he muttered under his breath. He didn't recognise the name, or at least have any association with anything around the school. "You brought me back..." he muttered. He couldn't hear the responce, but could feel his hand on his shoulder, and saw the light close to Mayu.
And then magic. The magic was so strong, so suddenly clear in his mind he could almost see the particles behaving strangely, the strange energy never more alive to him. And all too soon it was gone.
Although Melville couldn't tell, they were inside, in a small room with a sofa and soft carpet below them. It looked small, cosy and when the light was switched on it was bright to all but Melville. The curtains were closed quickly, and the bright light left the room.
Suddenly, Melville felt like he could see again, shrouded in Mayu's darkness. It was difficult, and all he could see was shadows without any hint of light, but it certainly took away the discomfort, for now.
He slowly lay back, his hand brushing against Mayu's soft hair as he kissed her forehead. He smiled; he'd expected to fall straight through her. "Wake up soon..." he whispered, before he too lost the fight against sleep.
