Mayu leaned her back against the tree trunk, one foot dangling down. It was very cold today, though she would never admit it to anyone, even she could feel the cold. A light layer of ice covered everything, even the tree branch she was sitting on.
Now, why was Mayu sitting on the tree? She wanted time to think to herself, without having to act happy or preppy. Time to think about everything going on in this school, the secrets and the new kids. Mostly the new kids however, namely two of them; Melville and Salem. She sighed, leaning back against the tree. On one hand, Salem was sweet any time of the day, except near Melville really, but then he was just funny. On the other hand, you have Melville, whom she just couldn't figure out what that guy was after.
It was times like this she was glad most girls wouldn't be coming out, only guys. Mayu thought for a moment, almost debating, about who she really wanted to meet today. Diane was out, she just couldn't deal with any girls today. Which also took out half the schools population, so to speak. That left her; Lynn, Anto, Brynn, Salem, Melville, and Maon. The gay boys were out, definitly did not need their cheerfulness. Maon and Lynn weren't the kind to help her, nor would she want to talk to them about anything personal. Mayu slapped her head, it came down to Melville and Salem, who were a fun pair together. She smiled to herself, knowing they probably wouldn't come, but now she was ready to have some form of fun.

Melville embraced the cold, wearing a thin coat and of course being far too stubborn to complain or wear anything warmer. He was used to the cold, but it was a very different type to this country's; here it felt dry and icy, whereas there was always water in the air back home. It reminded him of when he would have to be dragged up to Diane's house for Christmases, and when he had to face a very different chill.
He walked forwards, the brittle ground breaking under his heavy footsteps. He looked up, and saw Mayu instantly, "Oh, hi." he said, as if it was just a chance meeting. There was no way that he could have known otherwise to have come out in the freezing cold, and go to that very spot. He had been searching for her, though he would never admit it.

Salem wasn't entirely sure why he was outside today.
There was absolutely no moisture in the air: a strange sensation, leaving every breath feeling like cold that stole the breath from his lungs... not to mention it made his hair stand up like some diseased porcupine. (Anybody who dared touch it got quite a nasty shock.) It was blisteringly cold out today, and so Salem had bundled up: two sweatshirts, a jacket, and two puffy snowcoats.
Despite the fact he had been grumbling to himself in every class, this hadn't stopped a couple of kids for making fun of his outfit. And this hadn't stopped him from casually switching their outfits with lacy bras and panties.
He ran, now, shedding coats to give him more speed as he did so, dashing through the park (in a one horse open sleigh). He saw people up ahead, familiar faces, and leaped, grabbing the branch and pulling himself out of sight just as the boys went running by in their finest undergarments.
"He vanished! Go that way!"
"Yeah!"
The sound died away quickly, leaving Salem to poke his head out of the leaves and smile at Mayu and Melville, now merely in a short sleeved T-shirt, his breath making small clouds in the chilly winter air.
"H-H-Hey guys." he said, shivering slightly. "W-Whassup?"

"Jesus Christ, are you not fucking freezing?" he asked, his own breath making white spirals in the cold as he looked at Salem. Even watching him standing only in his T-Shirt made Melville feel suddenly colder, burrowing his hands deep into his pockets.
He hadn't spoken to Salem kindly, but it was a subtle difference for Melville. In truth he was a little angry with him, hoping that he would leave him and Mayu alone. He didn't want to be torn between his two personae, as he knew he would be. Would he ruin his reputation and strange hate-hate relationship with Salem, or would he possibly get Mayu hurt in an attempt to be the bad-ass? He knew he didn't have much choice with what his tongue and body would do.

Mayu smiled, leaping down from her spot in the tree, almost doing a face plant in the process. "Hello boys! Jeez-us, Salem! Aren't you cold?" she exclaimed once she reclaimed her balance. She focused a little, bringing the wind up a few notches before holding open her hands for Salem's coats to fly into. The coats were a little colder then when they left his body, but they would probably work just the same. Mayu smiled up at Salem, tossing them up.
Unlike the boys, she wasn't wearing layer upon layer of clothing. She had chosen a simple pair of jeans, knee-high black fur boots, and her largest black hoodie. Really, it wasn't so cold even though she could see her own breath in the air.

"Cold?" Nah." Salem mused, but he caught his coats anyways, slipping them on eagerly. They were a bit cold, but still trapped his heat in the layers.
"Sorry... did I interrupt anything?" he said cheekily, swinging so that his feet caught on the branch, allowing him to hang upside down. "I was being chased; can't really blame me."
Melville looked pissed. Salem only replied to this with a teasing smile.

Melville walked forwards, sneering a short "heh, fuck off." under his breath at Salem as he walked past him, going and leaning against one of the trees and folding his arms tightly. It put a decent gap between himself and Mayu, which is what he had intended but did not enjoy. "I didn't know screaming fan boys posed a problem to you, Salem. They asking for make-up tips again?" he asked, though there was no smile on his face. He really just wanted him to leave; their playful sparring could wait until later.

Mayu hid her sadness at Melville moving away, choosing to smile instead. "Or were they asking for something more?" she added after Melville had finished his question, smiling shyly at the boys. Poor Melville, even she could tell he was getting agitated at Salem's presence. Her eyebrow raised slightly as she cocked her head to the right, waiting for Salem to answer their questions.

"Actually, neither." Salem said, in a sing-song voice. "They were looking for you, my dear Melville, and they had tied me to a chair in the hopes I would be forced into revealing your location. However, I was able to escape using only a paper clip and a banana."
He smirked, tucking his hands behind his head. "True story, every word of it."

He looked at Mayu, surprised that she was finishing his sentences now. Were they really so close already, like a team? It was beginning to frighten him, and he was scared that he was slowly turning Mayu into a smaller version of himself, and that was something he wished upon no one.
He couldn't help but smile at the story, even though it was obvious that he was trying to fight it. "Oh, you think you're so funny don't you?" he sneered, though he was still smiling, even as he turned away from him.

Mayu smiled at Salem, a small plan forming. "But my dear Salem, if you were tied to a chair why ever did you try to escape. Did they not tell you who would be your next interrogator?" she asked with a devious smile, winking at him. She was suppose to be acting normal, wasn't she? So why not add what she would normally have said in there, even though it would probably get Melville fuming.

Salem gave an overly dramatic gasp.
"You?! You, my dear?!"
He placed his hand against his forehead... having quite an odd effect when he was hanging upside down.
"Ahh, my apologies! I would have stayed, had I known I would have seen your smirking face. Ahh, being tied to a chair would have been all right, then. Sadly, when beautiful women are not involved, it's not one of my little kinks."
He glanced over at Melville. "So, any particular reason you two are out here, in the same place, in the freezing cold? Were you waiting for me? How touching!"

He frowned; he was starting to feel protectiveness rushing through his viens, but he had learnt from long years of Salem's torment not to give into his joking so easily; especially when he didn't even know what he was doing. "Actually, yeah, we are waiting... for you to fuck off." he told him coarsely, going up to him and yanking on him tightly, trying to pull him out of the tree. It was making him dizzy just watching him.

She smiled at Melville, trying to feel nice. "Oh? Are you planning to join my dearest heart?" she asked sincerely, not clearly stating who that comment was to. Though she hoped Mel would be able to tell it was for him. "But, my Salem, how is it you interrupted us? Were you stalking us to this point?" Mayu smiled as he came tumbling down, hoping he hit his head on something hard.

"Didn't mean to. Was being chased."
Salem tumbled, but did a quick flip, landing on his feet easily.
"If you'd prefer I leave, I will... leave you two to, err, continue what it was you were doing."
He gave a smirking grin. "Though, you know, don't you think it'd be better if you went somewhere warm and got all lovey-dovey?"
