"Dad?" Brendan asked, walking toward the bright figure. It nodded, holding out its arms. The light faded, and there stood his father. Brendan ran to him, jumping into his arms. He hugged him tightly, tears falling down his face.
"Oh, Daddy! I missed you! So much! Why did you have to send me to that school? Why? Daddy, it did nothing but kill me.." He said, hugging him tighter.
'Well, son. You fell in love, didnt you?' He said, looking down at his boy in his arms.
"And it was the worst mistake of my life, dad.. S-she didnt love me. She still loved that 'Ant' guy. A-and she slept with him before she died. Daddy, I thought I was helping her by trying to kill myself. I thought if I got the voice out of my head, we could be happy. And then she thought I was dead and ran off with her boyfriend. Because she thought it was okay. That I was dead.."
Brendan started sobbing harder, clinging to his father.
"Dad, its not fair.. Why did he get her? Why did her get her?"
'Because she loved him, son. Because she loved him..'
"And I loved her. Doesnt that count for something?"
'Apparently not...' He laughed a bit, then pulled his son farther into the clouds, into the light.

"I knew you were alive..." came a voice.
Diane was there, a black inkblot against a perfectly white background. It seemed like the very air around her was glaring at her, trying to force her to leave. It was clear that it was taking most of her energy to just stay on the same plane as Brendan, to just be beside him.
The silhouette moved forward stiffly, as if walking through a thick sponge, tearing her way closer to him. "I loved you both, Brendan..." came her voice, though no mouth could be seen. "You were the one I wanted to grow old with, to die with..." she gasped, every word laced with tears. "He... I wanted to love you, Brendan. I tried my hardest to love you. I'm so sorry... I meant every word on my deathbed, every word!"

Abigail couldnt help but hear the boy crying, speaking of Diane.
"Youre the boy who was in love with Diane, arent you?" She asked, once he had entered into their world. She sat in the middle of a green pasture, her top still missing from when Diane had killed her.
She smiled, patting the grass beside her.
"I loved her too. Once. But there was this guy she just couldnt get over. Said she enjoyed the dance, not being able to have him. We only lasted a few hours, but I still think I loved her. I really loved my friend Dante. He was so sweet."
She laid back, her hands laced behind her head, her elbows out.

Brendan and his father sat beside the girl, curious to hear her story. But he heard Diane. He assumed it was in his head. He closed his eyes tightly, putting his hands to his ears.
"Stop lying to me! I dont wanna hear it!" He screamed through his tears. His form started shifting into a mist, then back into a spirit.
"Just stop. I know you loved him. And I know you didnt love me. So just drop the games and go wait for him at the gate. When you said you were dying for me, you lied. You were dying for him. To get away from what you did. You slept with him because you thought I was dead. Because you thought it was okay. Because I was dead. I dont wanna hear your lies, Diane. Now go wait for your boyfriend. Forever stops here.."
Every word he said was tearing him apart. But he meant it. He didnt want a girl who didnt love him.
"I came back to see you while you were alive because I loved you. Im not so sure about that now, Diane." He lied.

Diane stopped, her breathing heavy even though she should have had no breath. Black tears ran down her face, unable to be seen against her deadly black silhouette. She looked down, feeling herself sliding back as the plane tried to shift her body back to Hell or back to the mortal plane.
"Brendan.... I'm done lying. There's no point in lying any longer. Ask me anything, Brendan, and I will answer you only truth," she said, looking at him though no eyes could be seen. "Ask me anything and I won't try to protect you. Just know my intentions were always pure; I've been in your position, Brendan, and I would never willingly put anyone through that."
She could feel herself being dragged back, desperately trying to push herself forwards, "No! Just a little longer... please..." she begged whoever could listen, fighting desperately to be by Brendan's side for as long as she could.

Brendan didnt even want to talk to her. He wanted nothing to do with her. His hatred for Antosha was taking over his love for Diane. And in turn, it was making him hate her.
"You never loved me, did you, Diane? You lied this whole time about loving me. Because you wanted to lay him. Thats how it was, wasnt it? You wanted him the whole time. I was just here on the side. Just in case he didnt want you. Just in case he didnt take you home and bang your brains out." He said, his voice rising with every word. He was groing more and more angry.
"I always got his left overs. When he didnt love you, I got you. When he didnt have sex with you, I got you. When he didnt want to date you, I got you."
"You said youd be here with me forever. You lied there too. Thanks, Diane. Thanks a whole lot."

Diane stared at him, every word striking her down. "I loved you, Brendan..." she said softly.
"It was hard to love you. I warned you when we first met that I was damaged goods, that there was a lot going on. I needed someone that could hold me and tell me that they loved me, but also someone that I could hold..." she fought forwards, obviously struggling more and more, coming close to slipping back. "I gave up everything for you. I abandoned my friends, even my family, to be by your side. I deleted Antosha from my life because it was you that I wanted to love."
She closed her eyes, "The girl you loved was the girl who asked you to marry her in the rain. She was the innocent, pure version of me who had never been hurt before. And then you hurt her. You broke her, by not trusting her, but not telling her of your problems or asking for help when you needed it. And she shattered, and left the old Diane, the one who still loved Antosha..."
"I still feel what she feels... And it kills me every day," she told him, her heart breaking for him, "I still feel in love with you, I still have to catch myself as I dream of a home together, a white dress, even kids! And now I feel so torn apart..."
"Brendan, I love you... I only wish you believed me..."
She pushed herself forwards, finally standing right in front of him when she could feel the strength from behind her pulling her, suddenly snapping as she could feel herself being dragged back. "BRENDAN!" she screamed, holding out her hand and trying to grab him.

"Diane!" He screamed, reaching for her. He grabbed her hand, pulling her with all his might. He wanted her there with him, the Diane he loved. The Diane he still loves. The girl he intended on spending forever with. He had made a promise to her, and he wouldnt break it. He would fight whatever demon he had to, hold her as tightly as he had to. If it meant he got to keep the girl he loves with him.
"Diane!" He cried, pulling her with all his strength. But she was starting to slip. "No! Diane, dont go! Dont go back! Stay with me! Stay!"
His hand was slipping more. He couldnt let her go.. He needed her.
'Brendan..' His father whispered, watching his sons futile attepts at clinging to his love.

Tears rolled down Diane's cheeks as she tried to fight the force that was pulling her away, her heart breaking in two as she saw Brendan. He still loved her, still fought to be by her side. "Brendan..." she breathed, desperately wanting to stay here where there was no pain, pretend that everything was alright for an eternity. But they couldn't pretend, and even after a millennium Brendan would never trust Diane.
"I'm so sorry..." she said, pulling herself forwards with all her strength to press her lips against his. "I loved you... I love you... Forever..." she said looking into his eyes with her black orbs against her silhouetted body. "I wish you believed me..."
She screamed again, her body slipping back with a suddenly shuddering thud, her hand slipping from Brendan's and falling out of the limbo, disappearing from him forever.

"Diane!" He screamed, trying to claw her back, pressing forwards as she kissed him. A million memories flashed through his mind. Their first kiss, their first night together, her first 'I love you', when shed proposed.
Brendan dropped to his knees, tears falling down his cheeks. They dropped down to the grass, being soaked up the instant they were dropped.
"Diane.." He cried, clawing desperatley at the ground. Grass started flying as he tried to find her, tried to get her back to him. "Diane please.."
His father came up behind him, pulling him from the ground. Brendan kicked and screamed, the tears coming in sobs.
'Brendan, shes gone.' He told the struggling teen.
"NO! NO! THATS MY DIANE! THATS MY FIANCE!" He screamed, struggling against his father, trying to dig his way to her.
"DIANE!"

Abigail reached for Brendan, trying to pull him back. His hands were bleeding from his attempts to dig Diane back from where she had went. His tears were coming so fast and so strong, she imagined the boy couldnt see.
"Brendan! Shes gone! Stop it!" She said, pulling the boy into her cold arms. She rocked him slowly, trying to calm him. She rubbed his naked back, gently and motherly.
"Its okay, now, Brendan. You have us." She whispered to him. Then her whole body started to ache as Brendan began pounding on her.

"No!" He screamed, beating Abigail with his fists. He went back to his hole, still trying to dig her up. No! He doesnt get her! I do! He thought, tears blurring his vision. His throat began to burn, his eyes began to ache. He continued to dig and dig and dig, thinking he could get her back if he tried a little harder, if he dug a little deeper. His breath caught in his throat as he continued to dig, tearing up his hands. But it didnt hurt. It would never hurt. Because he would go on digging for an eternity, trying to take Diane back.. -Fin.-
