Shaun sat down at an empty table, her dark hair pulled into pigtails. She raised a hand to one, stroking it gently. She eyed the food with a distasteful look on her face. She kept her head down, afraid of what people thought of her.
She pushed her food away then stood up, walking outside. She sat down in the grass, pulling it up. She pulled an orange from her messanger bag, peeling it carefully with her short, black nails.
Ive been crawling in the dark, looking for the answers. She hummed to the song stuck in her head, biting down into the orange and sucking out the juice.

Bexi was lying on the grass already when the girl had arrived. It was such a wonderful day it seemed a waste to eat her food outside, particularly when it was boring - and partly hazardous - enough to eat as it was.
She leant back, lying on the soft grass, her hair in a nest over her head, her eyes watching the disgusting tasting thing which she had created, which apparently contained exactly 33% of all of her daily nutrients, while being soft enough to eat with little chewing. She sighed, looking at it in the sunlight, wishing that just for one moment she could taste it, even if it was disgusting. [/blockquote]

Shaun chewed thoughtfully, looking down at the orange in her hands. She tilted her head to the side a bit, admiring it. And wishing she could see its colors.
Her world was in black and white, while everyone else had color.
She bit down into it again, the orange juice dripping down her chin and onto her skirt. She wasnt very lady-like. She was sitting in the grass in a skirt, her legs folded indian style. But she figured no one was looking anyone. No one cared about her before. No one ever would, she figured.

Bexi looked up, pulling herself up as she put the final bite into her mouth. She was always self-conscious of eating around other people... apparently it looked quite strange.
She wiped her hands against each other, looking around herself as she pulled her hair back. "Oh, hey kiddo..." she said softly, realising for the first time that someone was near her. Well, kind of near her. Not really close enough to start a conversation just from them sitting together, but Bexi was restless. [/blockquote]

"Hi." Shaun said, without looking up. She tried to imagine what orange looked like. Was it bright? Was it dark? Did people like it? Did it taste like orange?
It looked lighter than some other things she saw. But it was still a bit dark. She turned the fruit over in her hands, watching it. She plucked a seed from it, examining it before tossing it away and plucking another from the juicy fruit.

Bexi smiled to herself, sliding herself closer to the girl. OK, yes, she'd probably be imposing, but how else was a girl supposed to get friends? "You know, I may not be an expert on the subject, but I think you're meant to eat it..." she commented with a friendly smile, pointing to the orange with her eyes. [/blockquote]

Shaun blushed, nodding as she pulled her knees together. She was always more self concious around girls. She smiled a bit, still tossing the bitten-into fruit from one hand to the other.
"What color is it?" She asked, looking down at it cautiously.

Bexi looked at the girl with a smile, but was wondering exactly what she had been taking... "Uh, its an Orange, so its... well, Orange..." she said slowly, with a curious look on her face. "And its not a blood orange either, if thats what you were wondering..." she said slowly. [/blockquote]

Shaun nodded, still wondering what it looked like.
"Well I still cant see it, so I guess it doesnt matter, eh?" She mumbled, taking another bite out of it. But this time it was too warm for her tastes.
"Im Shaun." she told her, looking at her for the first time. And the first thing through her mind was:
My God, shes perfect..

Bexi looked at her for a few moments, her first impressions being that she was saying she was blind. She smiled and nodded to herself, realising what she actually meant. "Well, orange is orange... looks like a cross between yellow and red," she said, with no other idea of explaining it. "And my name's Bexi, nice to meet you..."
She pulled herself closer, looking down at the orange. "Have you ever seen City of Angels? The film with Nicholas Cage as an angel...? Well, there's this bit where she's eating food and he asks 'What does it taste like?' and she says 'Want to try it?' and he can't, because he's an angel... So he asks 'No, I want to know what it tastes like to you'." she looked back at Shaun, leaning back again, "What I mean is... what does it taste like to you?" [/blockquote]

Shaun was learning so much about colors. Her aunt and uncle had never bothered to explain to her that anything was wrong. That when she colored in her coloring book as a child, the sky was red and the grass was blue. That when she would play with clay, her children were green and orange and blue, because the shades to her looked like the skintones of other people.
"It tastes sweet and tangy and sour.." She told her. "Are you an angel?"

Bexi laughed and shook her head, looking at her kindly, "No, hun, I'm just a superhero," she said, retreating into her safe imagination as the real truth came far too frighteningly close. "But shh, you can't tell a soul," she added with a wink. [/blockquote]

Shaun giggled, blushing as she was winked at. She had never been winked at. Maybe this girl liked her?
"Im not tellin' nobody." She told her, setting the orange down on the ground. She didnt feel like eating the fruit anymore. She would much rather spend time with this girl.
She was beautiful, beyond description. And Shaun wished she could see her in color. Would she be all the more dashing? Shaun thought so. She reached out to touch her cheek, wondering what color skin was. And how could Bexis be so much more beautiful that anyone she had ever seen?

Bexi flinched as the hand came close to her, moving away and making it look like she was going into her bag for something. She looked through her bag, trying to find something, anything she could have been looking for. Aha, her phone. She picked it up quickly, checking for messages, unsurprised that there was none.
She turned back to the girl, afraid that she'd offended her, but instincts had taught her to not let people be burned by her pain - or lack of. "So, you red-green colour-blind or the black and white one or what?" she asked, trying to make a conversation. The girl was certainly pleasing on the eyes, and the longer she could stay around her the better. [/blockquote]

"I dont see any colors.." She told her, folding her rejected hand into her lap as she moved away. People always did that. They were probably afraid she would take their color. Maybe one day she would learn her lesson and would stop trying to touch people.
"I dont want your color, okay?" She told her, standing up. She picked up the orange carcass, tossing it in the trashcan before walking back to her dorm. She kept her head down, her hands fumbling with her bag. She smoothed out her skirt, walking into the building and fumbling with her keys, trying to unlock the door.
