Lester smiled, leading them to his car. Technically, it wasnt a car. But a crew cab truck. He opened the back door for Shaun, knowing she liked to say down in the back seat. He pulled out the blanket he kept under the seat for her and covered her up with it. He closed the door gently, then opened Kits, closing it once he was inside.
He walked over to the drivers side, climbing into the drivers seat and starting the engine. He turned down the radio.
"A penny for your thoughts?" He said, looking over at Kit. He seemed like he had something on his mind.
"Me and Shaun dont mind listening, do we, Shaun?" He looked back at her, but she was sound asleep. "Well, I dont." He said with a smile.

Kit climbed into the car, so suddenly taken aback by the odd question that he didn't really know what to say. And what could he say? It was so much easier being in this world where everyone else's problems were so much bigger than his own, and it was a welcome break.
"Hm?" he asked, then gave a small smile. He put his arm against the window of the car, resting his head against his hand, "Oh, nothing much..." he said with a soft smile, looking back out of the window. "I was... just thinking about Shaun and everything," he mumbled. He really hadn't been thinking about all his problems, and the reminder had not been pleasant. Once again he was at bursting point with his problems, and still too shut off to speak.

Lester pulled out of his parking spot, making his way to the mall.
"I know sometimes its hard to talk about things. And sometimes you dont even wanna admit it. But you know, sometimes its alot easier to tell a stranger than to tell someone you really know." He leaned back in his seat, one hand on the wheel.
"Take Shaun for example. Had we been friends, or family, she might not had broken down and told me how hurt she was. You can tell me anything thats bothering you. And Im not going to judge you. I promise you that. Ill even try to help. Ive heard about whats been going on around school. Is thats whats bothering you? Did something happen to you? Was it your friends who just died? I know Id be pretty bad off if Shaun died. Or even you, for that matter. Youre a friend now, regardless of how long we knew each other." He didnt know if it was working. But he knew one thing that might. The same thing that had worked for Shaun.
"Ill tell you whats bothering me." He said, looking over at him. "And then you can tell me whats bothering you."
He looked back at the road, making a sharp right turn. "I think Im in love with Shaun."

Kit smiled to himself, his eyes distant as he watched the cars and white stripes and trees and fields all rushing past his window. He heard his words, winced at certain parts, stayed cold at others, and smiled the rest of the time.
He sighed. He supposed it was only fair to help deal with Les's problem first. "Well, it's pretty obvious to be honest," he said to him softly, looking back at Shaun and checking she was still asleep. "She's a sweet girl, even with the baggage you'd be hard-pressed to do any better," he said with an affectionate smile. "And god knows she could do with all the help she can."
He turned away; he'd really hoped that Les's problem had been something he could talk about more, say more on the subject to distract himself a little longer. But it was the end of the road. "yeah..." he said, keeping his eyes on the passing trees as he tricked himself into thinking he wasn't talking to someone else. "For me? There's... so much. Its hard to explain. I mean, yeah... yeah my-my friend died last week. A-and the night before he died I was attacked by that same guy, I barely made it out alive and never even realised how lucky I was until I found out how unlucky he'd been..." he closed his eyes and pressed his head against the glass. "I was... terrified. I thought he was going to..." he tightened his closed eyes, knocking his head against the glass.
"I used to think this school was safe." he gave a dark laugh, pulling himself up and turning away from the window, though still not quite at Les. "And every day I'm here it keeps telling me of more ways I could be hurt, reminding me of more ways I have been hurt..." he said, frantically distracting himself with his one of the magical stones which he was flipping over and over in his hands. Lester watched him for a bit. He seemed really scared.
"Shes really in love with this girl Bexi. And Bexi doesnt really want anything to do with her. All Shaun has is you and me.." He told him, looking back at the road. He didnt quite know where the mall was, but he knew vaugely where it was at.
"Look, man. Ill keep you as safe as I can, okay? I dont know how much I can do, but Im going to try and keep you as safe as possible. As long as you keep away form the guy who did this to Shaun, I think youll be fine. The chances of him really coming back after you is slim to none. Hes the one with the hit out on him, isnt he?" He laughed a bit.
"From what I hear, hes head over heels for his brother. Dont ask. Its creepy. I dont even remember where I heard that from. I think it was in the lunch room or something. But Im serious about keeping you safe." He reached over, patting his shoulder.

Kit slumped back in his seat, giving a tired smile. "Yeah, that's what my boyfriend keeps saying, too. 'We'll keep you safe, Kit'. And that its fine because the last guy was locked away... but there's always another," he said, turning back out of the window. He rested his head against his hand again, covering his mouth thoughtfully. "This wasn't the first time someone tried it," he said, blinking rapidly. "My friend's fiance, actually, although she-" this word seemed to burn more than the others "-was possessed... And last time they achieved it." he said, and refused to say any more of the subject.
He pulled himself up on the seat, finding that there was a gate that had suddenly been opened, a mad rush of memories and pain rushing forwards. "Bexi? Blond chick, stupidly tall?" he asked, his words sinking in. He smiled to himself grimly, "Yeah, she's the cow who broke my ribs at Bren's funeral..." he pulled himself more up the seat, wincing as his ribs stung just remembering it. "Well, re-broke them anyway. They were already broken." he admitted.

Lester laughed a bit. Cow. That was a term he hadnt heard in awhile.
"Well, she kinda treats Shaun like crap at times. Always arguing with her about Shaun liking her. She doesnt realize, Shaun likes everyone. She just likes Bexi more than she likes anyone else. And Bexi cant just stop and say 'Well okay, Shaun. Thats sweet. Why dont we go see a movie?' Its always 'You shouldnt like me. Im gonna die. Blah blah blah.' She cant just stop and tell Shaun that its okay to like her, that its not the deadliest of the seven sins. I just wish Shaun would snap out of it and realize who really likes her." He said quietly.
"But really man. I dont care if I have to camp out in front of your dorm. Im gonna try and keep you safe. If you ever need me, Im here for you. Dont ever stop to wonder if Im busy, or if I might have something else to do. Because I dont. Im gonna keep you and Shaun safe, okay? You guys shouldnt have to live in fear because of other peoples stupidity." He pulled into the malls parking lot, wondering if he should wake Shaun up.

Kit smiled; he was really feeling better being able to talk to someone about it, but he was starting to feel guilt creeping in. How had he been able to talk so well to this stranger and not to Zeke, or even Crys? He knew they'd listen if he asked - yes, both of them. But it was still hurting.
"Well... she shouldn't get too uptight about it. I mean, she's just one girl, right? And, I mean Bexi was at the funeral, I think she said that Diane - Bren's fiance - was her cousin? So she's bound to be feeling a little... mortal? Grieving? She certainly wasn't dealing with it all too well at the time..." he muttered, vaguely wondering why he was defending the girl who had struck him. She had seemed genuinely sorry, though, and seemed to have had good intentions.
He looked around themselves, seeing the mall in front of them. "I'm gonna be more in fear knowing that my friends could be hurt," he warned him. "Don't let me be alone, and don't let yourself be alone, OK?" he asked, knowing he probably wouldn't get an answer.
He twisted around uncomfortably in his seat to try and face the back, flinching and gasping as he suddenly realised that his moving around had really hurt him. He held out his arm, holding onto the two seats as he closed his eyes to regain his composure. He breathed for a few moments, dealing with the moments of pain, before he opened them again slowly.
Convinced he was back to his carefree, painfree way, he looked down to Shaun, whispering, "Hey, Shaun? We're here..." he woke her softly, reaching over and putting his hand on her cheek.

"Then you wont be alone." He told him, crinigng. He knew he was in pain. And he knew what broken ribs felt like. And he didnt particularly like the feeling, either. He looked back at Shaun, seeing her stirr. --- "Lester?" Shaun mumbled, opening her eyes and looking up at Kit. She smiled softly, yawning. "Hey, Kit." She told him, touching his hand gently. She sat up slowly, then stretched. She was warm and comfortable. "Here? Wheres here?" She asked, looking over at Lester, who surprised her with a kiss near her lips. She blushed madly, wanting to lean closer to him, for him to kiss her again. Bexi had never kissed her.. "Whats that for?" She asked him, her eyes wide. --- "Because.." He told her, climbing out of the car. He opened her door, helping her out.

Kit gave Les a knowing, wide grin. He waited until he was sure that Shaun was out of the car before he even attempted to get back into his seat so he could get back out. He didn't want her to worry about him, not at a time when she needed all the support she could get. He took a deep breath before turning back around, covering his mouth quickly to stop any stray screams or gasps escaping his mouth.
He breathed slowly, preparing himself to get out of the car, put back on the happiness for Shaun's sake. It felt good, even if it was just pretending, it was worth it. He pulled himself out of the car, smiling at the two, "We're at the mall. Lets get you a jacket, yeah? As cute as you look in my jacket, you can't keep it forever," he said with a smile. Shaun smiled. She had completely forgotten she was wearing Kits jacket. She had even forgotten where she was for a second. She climbed out of the car, blushing as Lester took her hand. It felt odd to be holding hands with someone. Especially a boy. But she kinda liked it. She held his hand tighter, clinging to it.
"If you get me a new jacket, youll have to wear it, so itll smell good. Like you." She teased, poking him gently in the arm. He looked like he was in pain. She wondered why.
"Are you okay?" She asked him, looking up at him. She laid her head on Lesters arm, since she couldnt reach his shoulder.
Does this mean he likes me? She wondered, looking up at him as he leaned down to kiss her forehead. She smiled at him, then looked back at Kit, wondering what was going on. Lester never acted like this.

Uh oh... he thought, suddenly panicking. She wasn't meant to have seen that he was in pain, he'd tried to be careful not to show that. "Me? I'm fine..." he said quickly, pulling himself off the car and walking quickly towards the mall, a little too quickly. "And, maybe you should wear a girl's jacket? I can lend you my cologne stuff if it'll help," he said, eager to move forwards.
"So, food first or clothes?" he asked them, apparently innocently to try and get them moving again.

"Oh. Okay! You looked like you were in pain. I was kinda worried. That youd hurt yourself." She said, bouncing along behind him, and pulling Lester with her.
"Oops!" She giggled, as she almost bumped into him. She looked down at her tummy. It didnt look any bigger. She wondered if there really was a baby in there. Then she remembered Kit saying she wouldnt show until five months.
"I think its a girl." She said with a smile. She didnt know how she knew. Instinct, maybe. She looked over at Lester. He almost a father to it, and it wasnt even his. She kinda wished it was. Then shed have a reason to love him. A reason to be with him.
"Uhh.. food sounds good." She said, smiling as Lester pointed at a little babys dress in one of the shops windows. It was adorable. Pink with lace, and little white shoes to go with it.

Kit smiled at her concern, but had no guilt in saying, "No, no..." After all, he hadn't been the one to get himself hurt. He walked quickly through the mall, trying to stay with Shaun and Les but still wanting to give them space. He didn't feel like a third wheel, surprisingly, but still wanted a chance for them to be close.
He smiled at the kids clothes, letting them walk more slowly in front of them. He hoped that Shaun wasn't getting her hopes up too high. It was still early days... He still remembered his sister's conviction that she was pregnant, remembered the day she'd cried when told it was a false negative.
"Food is this way..." he said, pointing to the food court. The simple action suddenly hurt his shoulder, as he remembered that he wasn't actually supposed to be out of his room yet, and he'd already spend so much moving about in America. It seemed to be taking its toll, not that he would tell the others that. "We all alright for tacos?" he quickly asked, eager to get to sit back down. [/blockquote]

Shaun nodded. She wondered why Kit seemed so eager. Then her spirits dropped. She thought it was something she had done. Was it because she had fallen asleep in the truck? Did he not like her baby?
"Tacos are fine.." She mumbled, looking down at her feet. She heard her phone ringing, then pulled it from her pocket. Thorn.
"Hello?" She answered, letting go of Lesters hand. She fell far behind them. "Im.. no, at the mall. With Lester and- .. No hes- ... Huh? ... No, I dont need- ... Thorn, I dont need- ... I dont care if you just brought them... I cant fit in your jeans, Thorn.. no, I doubt I ca- ... huh? She what? Oh.."
She waved Lester off, walking away to the bathroom, still aruging with Thorn.
