"Because." he said, holding her tightly. He couldn't tell her the truth, couldn't risk hurting her. Not again, never again. His arms wrapped around her waist firmly, trapping her close to him. "Don't go." he pleaded, looking deep into her eyes. He wasn't ready to lose her. Not yet, not ever. He wanted her forever at his side, but he knew that would never happen.

She looked down, putting her own arms loosely around him, not quite willing to go. She had watched his eyes as he'd pleaded and it had crushed her heart, feeling like every rib in her body had collapsed in on itself and crushed her. "I don't want to..." she said, hardly able to breath. "But I don't know how I can stay..." she said softly. "Do you have any idea what this feels like?" she asked him, looking into his eyes before turning away. "Of course you do. You feel all." she said, a bitterness in her voice. "Which is why I have to go. I can hurt myself as much as I like but... I can't tiptoe around a man that just doesn't love me. And never will."

Antosha backed away, curling his arms around himself. It was over. The game he so desperately wanted to play was done, unable to become anything further then such. They would part and never turn back. "Goodbye." he said, his voice cold and emotionless. She wanted to go and he was sick of keeping her since she clearly hated to stay.

She felt her heart beating quickly as he took those steps back, every step pounding through her chest. She nodded slowly, lowering her head with every nod. "Thank you," she said, wrapping her arms around herself. "Make Brynn happy. He's very lucky," she told him, trying to match his tone but failing utterly. And with that, she stepped through the thick grass, walking and walking until the pain in her feet finally outweighed that of her heart.
