It wasn’t what she wanted, wasn’t what she planned. Everyone was in pain, everyone had their own suffering too deal with. The old dress had been shed from her skin, a new one in it’s place. It was graceful, form fitting, and far from Lolita. The dark blue material fit snug to her waist, flaring out gently till it reached her knees, the plunging neckline exposed her various assets. Mayu looked around, finding herself quiet alone for once. With a rather sly smile she let her hair down, letting it slide to her waist in waves. The moon was high in the sky tonight, though the bitter air hit her exposed skin brutally.
But none of that mattered right now. All that mattered was her, here, and now. A song played over and over again in her head, a slow melody with a heavier beat for the bases. She raised her arms gently, bending over slightly, pointing her toes. Three years of ballet practice was coming back to her now, in flashes and pictures. Mayu smiled to herself, dancing over to one side, then the other, using just her toes. Her mind was lost in the music, lost in the work of her dance.
Alone, lost, and very afraid. That’s what she used to be, but somehow it all changed once she came here. She found herself, found her new friends, found her spine. One, two, three. Leap. She threw herself into the air, adding a slight swirl to her hips letting the dress flare out as she did so. Flight, that’s all she wanted. She landed, far to soon, then stopped all together. The song ended in a last beat, “I see what’s going down, cover up with make-up in the mirror. Tell yourself it’s never going to happen again..” She sung out, the song still haunting her memories.
Mayu looked around, breathing deeply into the cold night’s air. Happy Birthday cae her grim thoughts, the very ones she fought so hard to ignore. As soon as she’d gotten to the dance bad things started happening, and Antosha snapped. He really snapped. She shuddered, feeling ice going down her spine. With another small smile she twirled around, launching herself back into the air.

A drink in her hand, and a splinter in her heart, Diane ran. Or rather, she walked. She walked and walked and walked, her feet burning and her legs splattered up and down with mud. She finally ended up further up the coast line than she'd ever been, staring down into the turbulant water.
"Lets go back, De...." she heard a voice, feeling a cold tingle running through her hand as her spirit guide held it. "You've sorted things out. Saved Abigail, made up with Melville and Mayu..."
She wiped away a tear, nodding slowly. "Thanks..." she said, turning to where he would have been. She had forgotten that she could not see him, and quickly looked down.
She stumbled back, holding onto her heels and carrying on, learning how to smile again. Finally, she reached someone she knew. It was Mayu, dancing beautifully. She smiled, the dance calming her. "I didn't think I'd see you this side of New Year," she said, smiling as she folded her arms. "Has Melville gone home now, then?"

Mayu stopped, stumbled, and fell. “Oh, crap. Hey De.” Her words were airy and distant. A sharp pain was coming from her ankle, but she ignored it to a point. No wonder they didn’t jump with heels on, especially in such uneven ground. “Yeah, I’m pretty sure he left.” She offered a sad smile, followed by a shrug. Pretending not to care, she stood back up and dusted off her newest dress. Not that she’d tell anyone but the Lolita dress had gotten torn off, leaving her with the second choice outfit. Already she’d sent a message to Anto to change his own outfit.

She nodded, walking forwards slowly, feeling awkward as her folded arms turned to just holding herself uncomfortably. "Mayu..." she said slowly, cautiously. "Are-are we OK now?" she asked, not really wanting to know the answer if it was bad. "I-I'll be good around Melville. I won't hurt him if he doesn't hurt me." she said, almost desperately.

She paused then moved, almost gliding, over the ground to Diane. Without a word she wrapped her arms around the girl, smiling. “We’re fine De. Besides, I can contain Mel to a point… As you say when I blacked out.” She laughed, backing up a few steps. Mayu pulled her hair back up into a loose bun, letting the tips of her hair fan out around the edges.

She hugged, a big smile spreading over her face, "Thanks Mayu..." she said slowly, then frowned, "Uh, sorry but, what did you do back then? I- a lot of the details are really fuzzy. Like... I feel like I should be mad at Antosha, but I really don't know why," she said, looking up at Mayu and giving a nervous smile.

Mayu looked at Diane, a sad expression in her eyes. “You don’t want to know about Diane. You don’t want the nightmares, not like the rest. Besides, if I were to show you the memories I wouldn’t be able to stop the rest.” She dared a glanced at the girl then darted her eyes back to the ground. A flicker of something, fear maybe, flashed over her own eyes. No one should have to see Antosha like that, no one. Melville might be strong, might be mean. But nothing he did could compare to Antosha’s deeds, nothing compared to his strength. We all might have a streak of mean, a glimmer of rage. Antosha’s were insurmountable, inhuman, and scary. If he had killed that man, right there, he wouldn’t have blinked, wouldn’t have cared. A cold-hearted killer ran through his veins, even he couldn’t deny it. But Mayu knew better, Antosha was kind and gentle to everyone but the deserving.

She looked down, thinking hard. "I don't want to know what happened..." she said slowly, then looked back up to her. "I just want to know if I'm right. I want to know if I should be helping him or hating him right now..." she said with a small smile. "I mean, we all go a little crazy once in our lives, right? Just ask Me-" she stopped herself, turning away. There was no way she was opening that can of worms.

“Ahhh, I think you should just be yourself around him. I know for a fact he’s going crazy right now.” She closed her eyes, sticking a probe inside his head then retreated quickly. “Ok, um. Yeah. Anto really wants Brynn at the moment. Suggestion? Don’t go into his head for awhile.” She laughed, feeling tingly all over from his mind. Mayu sighed, she hated backlash. Quickly she had to remind herself that she wasn’t a guy, defiantly wasn’t gay, and did not love Brynn.

It felt like she had just been stabbed, and she could once again feel the cold tingling on her hand and a whispering in her ear, telling her 'It'll be OK...'. She smiled meekly, shrugging and saying, "That's nice. They'd make a cute couple." she said, sighing as she pulled her hand away from Mathew, folding her arms again, "Did I say that I broke up with Abigail?" she said casually, knowing fine well she'd said no such thing.

Mayu stopped smiling and stared at De, judging her reaction with an expert eye. She reached out with her hand and gently touched De's cheek, just as Mathew had. "Your sad?" she asked in a quiet manner. It was a miracle the whole school wasn't aware of the spirit problem, Mayu knew about it, she was one of the first. But unlike most of the others she didn't even have a spirit guide so she was left unprotected. She gave Diane a small hug, keeping her hands placed lightly on the girls waist. Not that Mayu liked her, but for some reason it seemed like the right thing to do at the moment.

She gave a small smile, squeezing her tightly as she hugged her. Even as Mayu held onto her waist, she never once thought of her in that way. She was just relieved, praying that she thought she was upset because of the break-up rather than the get-together. "Yeah... I feel kind of bad. She was just so paranoid about every little thing I did and then gave me some really horrible sob story and... I feel bad for her, but I was mad and I told her that being hurt spoiled her." she paused, thinking of how bad that made her sound, "She was possessive and demanding and I couldn't take it."

"No problem. If your looking for blame, my dear De, you won't find it here." she smiled, grabbing Diane's hand gently and leading her back towards the party. "It's my birthday today, so. Let's party shall we?" Mayu laughed, hugging Diane gently. Besides, dirnking made everything better.

She laughed, shaking her head and taking her by her waist and leading her into the main part of the evening, "OK, I'll get your drinks all night, for your birthday," she said, winking just as Antosha often did. She wasn't about to tell her that it was a free bar. "Oh, and that reminds me..." she said, picking up her bag and pulling out the charm bracelet Mayu had given her, putting it on her wrist, struggling slightly with the latch, though it distracted her enough to not have to watch her as she said, "Melville's good for you, you know..."

Mayu stopped, smiling at the sight of her charm bracelet on Diane's wrist. "Wait." she blinked, turning to see De's face. "What do you mean?" she asked, holding onto Diane's shoulders carefully. She could not have just said that, weren't they suppose to be enemies or something? Yes, they could be civil to each others faces. But away from each other?
